Brita 2.4l Maxtra Water Jug Red $15 + Delivery ($0 in-Store/ OnePass/ $65 Order) @ Kmart

301

was using up some giftcards from some lackluster credit card deals. saw this, seems like a good deal on a brita jug if you can stand the red. and comes with a filter too. (can get 3rd party filters cheap too, quality of those can be hit and miss)
for melbourne water it probably doesn't do much but may reduce that tap tasste that some people dont like.

  • Better off getting an 8L one

    • got a link please?

    • +3

The 8l one takes a lot of moving bulky sloshing water from fridge to tap and back just to slowly dribble out…

This is just faster and easier tbh.

      • Don't have to fill it up as often, depends what you're used to. Start with the 2L for $15, good price.

Why not just use a watering can? That's what I do.

      • The big one can be refilled at anytime
When it gets low, just top it up.

      • +1

        Ya, agreed.

  • got one, cheers

Isn’t tap water in Australia already safe to drink? How does this Brita product differ, say to the filtered water from the fridge or normal sink tap?

    • +1

Yes it's fine, depends if you like the taste.
Check out the website or Google it, says what particles they remove and what they don't.

    • Yeah tap water is safe, although it has chlorine and chloramine which is still chemicals and changes the taste. And depending on where you are, there might be a little lead, copper, etc.
Brita reduces the amount of those chemicals to give it a better taste.

    • yes, but Brita (and maybe similar products) does remove the tap water taste, leaving the "neutral" taste

Tap water in Australia is mostly safe to drink, mostly.

Better just to buy spring water in 10L containers from Aldi for $5…. To avoid all those chemicals.

    • Still micro-plastcs and wasteful..
In Thailand I wouldn't grab a 5L bottle to save getting those small ones a few times a day.

    • BuT iT tOuChEs PlAsTiC

      • The water you get from the tap, goes through rubber and plastic all the time, all filters made out of plastic…

  • I ordered this few weeks back 2 times in WA. Both times they cancelled it saying couldn't source the product.

  • +1

I have the blue one. Been using it for 8yrs now. I drink at least 3L from mine per day.

    • Good boy!

  • OOS

  • Perfect to increase your micro plastic consumption even further. :)

Make sure you put hot water in this also…. HAHA.

    • Who puts boiling water in a water filter….

      • Who said boiling.

More Plastics and Consumerism. This product should have been redundant in Australia with Safe tap water. If only common sense was common.

    • "Safe" is vague, the tap water is far from ideal in many areas even in australia. Theres alerts about contaminated tap water still these days, and i can notice a big difference between unfiltered tap water both taste and stomach discomfort

    • Potable water is safe to drink.
      You'll die of something else.
I like the taste but no doubt a reverse osmosis system would be the best.

      • +1

Reverse osmosis would be a perfect way to increase your microplastic oncsumption. The 'resin' is made of ….. guess what?

Reverse osmosis should be reserved for fish tanks and washing cars.

        • +1

Yeah not getting it an know little about it.
          What are your proposing?

…. Guess what? uPVC water pipes

You'll make yourself crazy if you worry too much about micro-plastics.

          • @G-Shock: uPVC pipes have a thick biofilm on them. Still, I take your point.

So is it logical to increase those plastics by putting a reverse osmosis membrane? or Brita jug? ;)

            • +1

@Naigrabzo: Dunno, can't do too much about it. I got a Brita jug, better than untreated IMO. Guess you can buy glass bottles water if you so choose.

I wouldn't overthink it too much unless that is the only unhealthy thing in your life.

Correct you can look up the pipe properties in manufacturer's catalogues, eg.

@G-Shock: True in a way. Hard to take action. Also agree that this is for advanced health enthusiasts. Better to give up smoking, better sleep, exercise 200 minutes weekly etc etc and get massive gains rather than penny pinch on plastics.

  • Its sooooo worth having onepass so I dont have to pay postage on all the deals I miss.

    • even at full price for one pass (i paid full price once because i forgot to cancel at year end) its worth it for me, although I do wish it was a little faster del time.

  • Back in stock I think, just ordered one for delivery with OnePass.

  • I have this and cartridges on average only last just under one month according to the timer. Although that would depend on how often you use/refill it. I read many people use there’s for longer before changing. Since one month is fairly short.

    • Yeah we normally let ours go about 6 weeks. And always take them out if we go away on hols as they can get mouldy etc, and then normally put a fresh filter in when we return.

  • What’s the cheapest filter for replacement after a month?

    • just have to try find some for $10 each or less.

      • Thanks
