I wanted to pull the trigger on a discounted LG OLED this year, but after the announcement of Dolby Vision 2 probably not a bad idea waiting until next years models (or the unlikely confirmation that these models will be backwards compatible).

    • I've got my eyes on the tcl mini led TVs since the 2025 range looks pretty good.

I wonder if dolby vision 2 is really worth waiting for the 2026 models for future proofing…

      • The TCL CK8 might be safe, WhatHifi has an article punished yesterday saying as much.

It would be likely that it would be Dolby Vision 2 and not the enhanced Dolby Vision 2 Max though (what a mess).

Personally I am not keen on dropping 5k+ on a screen when in 6 months there will be a HDR standard release that will likely be supported for 10 years, but we'll probably get a clearer idea in January at CES about what it's all going to look like.

        • article punished yesterday

          Such a sadistic website

DV2 isn't really going to be that much greater than what is out right now.

      • Maybe but when spending this much it’s worth considering.

Holy shit thats a good deal!

I'd take all the JB compatible 10% off cards you've stocked up for this sort of thing and you're off to the races!

Also, if OW have this or anything similar (big purchase) you've been thinking of buying then make sure (obviously) the cards are OW compatible, get your 5% price beat and stack with OnePass 5x FlyBuys.

    Nice one OP!

Harvey norman has the tv at 5882 +349 so total comes down to 4,981.60

Oh man. I wish you didn't point this out. I'm so close to pulling the trigger. Wife won't be happy.

    • Can you share a screenshot please?

        • +1

Thanks. I was able to use it to price match with good guys. Took a couple tries. First rejected promo codes, second didn’t seem to care. Treated it as a supplier match.

  • I got this recently via JB deal, worth it. Wish I pulled the trigger earlier and enjoyed the TV.

Very temptin. That's $700 cheaper than the 77"!

  • very very tempting! does my C1 need replacing 🤓

    • I'd say not yet for a C1. I'm still waiting until MLA ends up in a c series, and the DV2 as the first comment.

      • My mate went from G3 to C5 and reckons C5 is noticeably better (still owns both). It was a size upgrade too though.

        • Yeah I'd be going from a 65 to either a 77 or 83 as well.

      • Unlikely that MLA ever ends up in the c-series. It's expensive to manufacture (and probably has yield issues), part of the reason they dropped it

With Dolby Vision 2 and possibly a new HDR 10 standard being announced later this year, the Christmas discounts will be killer this year. Seeing I can't actually see the difference between HDR10 and the much better (apparently) HDR10+, I am ok getting a better deal on a 2025 TV then waiting for Dolby Vision 2.

  • waste of money on this tv the reason no dts dtx no dts hd master.no hdr10 plus.

    • Which TV has all of those plus the most widely used format in Dolby Vision?

  • couldn’t help myself saw the C5 instore 😍 ☠️ $4,927.99 delivered from JB so if you take $50 off for their delivery come down to $4,877.99

  • Not that great of a deal. Makes more sense to spend the extra ~$650 to get the 77" s95f or g5 rather than spending $5k+ on a TV for washed out colours and no MLA.

83" isn't really worth the price premium versus 77".

Also not the cheapest price available either.

    • The s95f in the rtings review has a qd-oled panel. Which is only available up to 65” but not available in the Aus market anyway.

The C5 does perform considerably well compared to last years G4. Sure not as good as this years G5, but that’s expected and it’s still a great panel. Going from 83C5 to 83G5 is a $2k difference, and may not be worthwhile for everyone.

Curious though, where have you seen it cheaper? Or are you suggesting there will be lower prices later in the year?

        QD-OLED panels are 55", 65" and 77"

        In Australia, the 55" s90f and 55", 65" and 77" s95f are QD-OLED.

But it's easy enough to check by the product names. If the fourth last letter in the product name is not an E, it's a QD-OLED.

Eg: The 83" is QA83S95FAEXXY. Thus it's WOLED

        The 77" is QA77S95FAWXXY thus it's QD-OLED.

But you are right that the 83" s95f is to be avoided.

I did not say to get the 83" s95f/g5, but the 77" versions of those TVs. They only cost a few hundred more than the 83" C5, but and 83" TV is 7.7% bigger than a 77" TV.

This deal was cheaper at Harvey Norman, probably TGG as well using price beat for the 83" C5.

You're right, I was wrong with the models. I've been focussed on the 83" due to the space I'm shopping for. In my case the C5 made more sense but definitely would have opted for the QD-OLED had it been an option as an 83". I ended up getting the 83C5 for $4.6k at TGG on price match. It worked out okay.
