IdeaPad Pro 5 w/ AI 7 350 Freezes/Crashes - Anyone Else Experiencing This?

I bought an IdeaPad Pro 5 when Lenovo was doing one of its sales earlier this year and I've been experiencing random freezes - is anyone else experiencing that?

It's not an every day thing but its happening a couple of times a week.

Laptop will just freeze, it seems to happen most often while I'm watching netflix in a browser or a movie with VLC, the system is non-responsive (sometimes audio keeps playing) and I have to hold the power button in to restart.

If it was a widespread issue with the Ryzen AI 7 350 I'd assume I would have seen other complaints, I've updated drivers and what not but still seem to be having an issue.

  • Wow okay - yes.

I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but aside from my issues with Windows 11 I've also been having fairly regular freezes and crashes when using Explorer.

    I got the IdeaPad Pro 5 (14", Gen 10) AMD. It's the Ryzen™ AI 5 340 Processor.

Given all the issues I've been having with W11 I was going to do a backup and wipe on the weekend.

P.S. I've noticed freezes happening mostly on battery power, rather than plugged in. Have you noticed that?

    • I think it seems to happen when on battery, its been a little hard to nail things down - does it crash more often when I'm watching Netflix while on battery or am I just mostly using the computer watching Netflix on battery so of course that's when its happening.

  • Try turning off GPU hardware acceleration in your browser and VLC

Yes, have turned off hardware acceleration, will give it a couple of days to see if that has any affect.

I have the IdeaPad Pro 5 AI 350 running Linux (Fedora Silverblue), and haven't had any of the issues described.

From what is being said by other commenters, it may be that the firmware/drivers are not mature (This appears to be a very new SKU) so perhaps updating/reinstalling drivers may fix this. You may also try changing power profiles in the BIOS which may alleviate some problems. If all else fails, it could be down to the preinstalled Lenovo software, and a fresh Windows install may solve it.

  • I finally got a BIOS update over the weekend. In addition, I did a fresh Windows install and so far haven't had any issues. I'm leaning towards the preinstalled Lenovo software being an issue…

  • I did when I got it but they have went away now, fresh install of windows, all windows updates and updated the amd software manually using the installer from the website.
