  • Xiaomi smart band 9 Pro is still cheaper from OS

    • +9

10 is worth it, symmetrical watch display

      • I've had both. 10 is definitely worth getting. They're similar, though.

      • What does symmetrical watch display mean?

I have the 8 which is great. My son has the 9 which seems exactly the same. But they are so cheap that I'm fine to upgrade from the 8 if there is any actual reason to.

Edit: have they fixed the date display so I can show the day and month in the correct order and not be forced to backwards American order?

        • 8 owner here.
I just download custom watch faces that suits me. The one I normally choose is where they spell out the month (e.g. Sep 05), so I don't mix up day vs month.

          • @Jiv: Yeah, some has that, but there are not all that many faces that I like and very few uses that format. The ones I like all have it like 9/30. Which is super annoying and can't be changed for some weird reason. I might upgrade for that fix alone (if it's been fixed??).

I think I figured out the symmetrical thing as well. I always use a black face because of the relatively massive bezels which makes any other have unusable for me, but I can see that the bezels are actually not even sized (ie bottom one is even bigger than the others). Which is what I think it is referring to.

      • "please explain".

Symmetrical watch display?! How is this an improvement on a regular watch.

        • It's symmetrical

        • It's got a chin, so to speak. Like a cheap smartphone. Doesn't affect functionality, but it may bother you if you look at it every day. I suppose it's more noticeable when you have a bright watch face, less-so for a dark one.

        • +2

The bottom and top bezel are the same. The 9 has a larger bottom part to it that can be distracting once you see it.

    • +1

Can someone please explain to me the point of a "band" as opposed to a "watch"? Is it just cheaper because it's thinner? Or is there some fitness benefit?

Xiaomi have officially launched in Australia directly and partnered with Mobileciti as their first exclusive retailer.

Do we have an official source on that? I feel like I've seen a million storefronts claim this in one form or the other over the years…

    Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G

Oh hey a local seller for the Global SKU of these. (Which aren't blocked on Telstra)
Maybe Xiaomi will finally push a firmware update with the correct profiles and get their Chinese models unblocked by Telstra… (Ahahahahahaha no)

I know the prices for the headphones are worse than AliExpress, but if it's local warranty…

    • I think in regards to the first question with it being Mobileciti which has been quite well established, their announcement might be enough of a source

    • +3

Do we have an official source on that? I feel like I've seen a million storefronts claim this in one form or the other over the years…

They've always been distributors under different names, i.e. Panmi. None of them have ever claimed to be Xiaomi directly. In this instance it's Xiaomi Australia who have actual Xiaomi employees. ABN and business name available from their warranty on Xiaomi's website.

      https://www.mi.com/au/support/warranty/

      • -1

From the link you posted: "Mobileciti is proud to be one of the exclusive authorised resellers"

They are NOT exclusive, they are an authorised reseller and not even the first.

The post should be changed to reflect this.

        • Xiaomi have officially launched in Australia directly and partnered with Mobileciti as their first exclusive retailer.

They are the first exclusive retailer of Xiaomi Australia and right now Xiaomi are not selling direct. When others come on board they will no longer be the first.

If you don't like what Mobileciti are putting on their own website go complain to them. I can't do anything about it, as I'm not Mobileciti.

          • -1

            @Clear: They're not saying they're first - you are.

Regardless, would you repeat that Kogan and Apple are fantastic with their warranty and process because they do?

You posted this and know it's not correct.

I included their wording from the link you provided, which contradicts what you posted here.

            • +1

@Big L: So who is else besides Mobileciti is selling from Xiaomi AU? If there's no one else then saying Mobileciti are the first exclusive reseller is correct.

              • -1
                • +1

@Big L: None of which are selling any Xiaomi products with the exception of JB who have a single clearance item. Prior to September Xiaomi were using 3rd party distributors instead of themselves. Originally it was Panmi, then things happened and they started closing up. Xiaomi phone distribution rights went to another company, that ended up collapsing when all their phones got blocked in the 3G shutdown, Segway distribution went to 360 International who were already distributing Roborock.

Now Xiaomi themselves are operating directly and Mobileciti is their first exclusive partner until Xiaomi sell on other platforms, like Amazon and later through their own channels.

How do I know all of this? I know the Xiaomi General Manager.

                  • -1

@Clear: So you're associated and not even Mobileciti are saying what you've just said.

No wonder you're commenting throughout the posts.

I see that they've dropped there warranty partner as well, so if that's meant to be Mobileciti, Australians may as well buy from AliExpress.

                    • +1

@Big L: I don't work for Xiaomi or Mobileciti so there's no association. The mods were told about the Xiaomi launch a month ago.

    • +2

I also bought some Redmi buds on AliExpress recently and I immediately knew they were knock offs, the quality difference to the ones I bought in Australia was stark.

      • +1

Maybe you got yourself a Xioami, not a Xiaomi. There are plenty of these in AliExpress, it's madness.

        • +2

Nah, it had the branding all over it. AliExpress refunded because it was a blatant knockoff.

    • I've seen a million storefronts claim this in one form or the other over the years…

and then fail to provide support….

    • +1

The information here from 2019 seems to conflict with what Mobileciti is claiming:
      https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/xiaomi-now-in-australia-proper-…
I did a Google search and couldn't find any news about changes to distribution, etc. I think Mobileciti need to be more specific about their claim.

Xiaomi Watch S4 Black is cheaper from Amazon AU

    • +1

Amazon Japan* but yes grey stock typically is cheaper than local.

  • Redmi watch 5 lite is cheaper from Amazon Japan

    • Can you give the link?

which versions that have NFC function?

    • the NFC only works in China.

      • I have NFC, set up WeChat Pay via a Chinese bank account, fairly easy these days.

        • -1

so what jv said is correct, but you just wanted attention?

          • @Hugh G Rection: No because people with Chinese bank accounts can use it here in Aus… many restaurants and posting services accept WeChat pay, not sure of the tax implications

        • -1

          Hi Jacinta.

Is there any smart watch that have a ECG/EKG heart monitoring with AF detection? Wanna buy it for my mum to monitor her heart condition

    • +1

      Apple watch?

      • +1

        Pixel watch too

        • Thank you will look it up.

    • +2

Try huawei band 10. The heart monitoring quite good and seems detect afib reasonably. Setup the account using country china or Indonesia to have this feature.

      • Thank you mate. Will check it out

      • Can you change the country on existing account? I couldn't find it in the app to set country..

        • I don't think so. You need to contact customer support for it. Easier to create a new account

    • Fitbit 6.
Wife has AF issues. It's heart rate monitoring is the best there is. And it does ECG, sleep monitoring etc.

      Great battery life too.

      • Will look it up thank you. Is it the Charge 6?

Is the AFib automatically detected from continous heart rate monitoring or you have to do a test to detect?

        Thank you

    • I was looking for this stuff as well. Most 'budget' watches with this functionality have it disabled/blocked in Australian markets because they don't want to pay to have it certified as a 'medical device'.

The big brands however (samsung, apple, google) seem to be the only ones who have it.

I think there have been workarounds to unblock it on budget watches but it sounds like a hassle.

  • +1

Anyone has an experience with Redmi Buds 6 Pro? How does it compare with other buds in a similar price range?

    • +5

Yes, brilliant. I brought from Ali and have had them for about a month. Great sound, excellent noise cancelling - I use them for video calls a few times a day at work in a noisy office (Teams) and they just work.

I have Xiaomi ecosystem at home (phones, tablets, routers) and the automatic connection once you turn on Blluetooth giving you battery status of each bud individually and also the case is so good. I have an issue with my work laptop in that I have to remove the device in W11 to disconnect but the button on the charge case makes it really easy to connect again.

Really comfortable to wear and the autodetect its not in the ear and pausing the video (not a video call, just playback video) is great. I haven't customised the gestures for left/right but the volume up/down gesture out of the box is really good. I should set up a double tap to mute for Teams call but you can do this and the buds remember!

      • +1

Thanks mate, really appreciate you taking the time to write this review.

        • -1

          the cost?

  • +2

Good price for the Smart Band 10, it is actually cheaper than Aliexpress.

    • +1

It's sold for 269 CNY (~A$58) in China. Definitely a very good deal

      • Yeah, just paid under $57 on this deal, using the new account discount (free shipping + $10 off).

  • +2

Are there any plans on selling the POCO series?

    • -4

      selling the POCO series

      On Mon….

  • Looks like the page for the top link incorrectly thinks its a Redmi band thing and not the actual phone…

    • -1

It was a Redmi phone originally. One of the mods would have manually changed it.

      • Nah i mean the website is wrong

the top link (not the picture) which reads: Mobile Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Dual SIM 12/512GB(mobileciti.com.au) $699.00 $616.55

it shows a phone but then the "features" and "whats in the box" are all some redmi band product thing, not the phone.

        • +1

Ah got it. I've let them know.

  • Would these phones play nice with networks here? VoLTE and all?

    • +3

      Yep.

  • is health monitoring good one this?

  • +1

Thanks for this OP. My Mi Band 8 that I got from AliExpress had died on me unfortunately with the display going berserk and becoming unusable for no particular reason and hence was on the lookout for a new one. Decent price and great place to grab it with respect to warranty for peace of mind.

  • Has any one had any luck with getting a good quality tempered glass for the Mi Band screen that actually stays on and does its job? The one's on AliExpress just fall off as the adhesive glue is of poor quality.

  • -1

I wouldn't mind getting the cheap redmi buds, but while shipping is reasonable as such, it's still like 50% the price of a cheap item like that. Do they have a way to get free shipping?

    • +3

Apply the code MICITI for 5% off and free delivery.

      • +1

Oh shit, it gives free delivery too? I missed that, thanks!

  • The Redmi Note 14 lists only 4G bands for the 12/512GB while the 12/256GB one has both 5G & 4G bands !!

    • thats strange. you would expect they would have the same band ranges givne both are 14 pro+ model. Asumme it is a human erro?

  • Is there anyway these can be used as a locked down kids watch/ location tracker?

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

I'm just looking for headphones to use Teams. Are any of these buds ok for video calls? Just after something cheap that I can leave in office.

    Huawei band 10 is better

Still holding onto band 6 as it has better battery than 10. funny

  • Does anyone know if the Smart Band 10 is any good for reasonable sleep tracking (obviously I understand sleep tracking via smartwatches will never be super accurate)? I've heard the Smart Band 7 is much better at sleep tracking.
