Optus Email about The Free 500/50 Speed Upgrade for nbn FTTP and HFC

,..Hi PissLUR,

Great news - recently, NBN Co announced they’ll be increasing the broadband speeds on three of their fastest speed tiers at no extra cost. Your service will automatically benefit from this upgrade and we want to let you know more about it.

From 15 September 2025, in line with the changes from NBN Co, we will begin upgrading eligible Optus nbn plans with Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) connections to faster speeds.

From
100Mbps download/18Mbps upload*

To
500Mbps download//43Mbps upload**

*Typical Busy Period Speed (7pm - 11pm)
**The Typical Busy Period Speeds advertised for the new nbn speed tiers are our best estimate, based on the available speed data. This is not based on the speeds observed for a representative sample (with the exception of the Ultrafast download speed which is not changing). Once more data is available, the Typical Busy Period Speeds for the new nbn speed tiers will be updated accordingly.

Yes, this was announced ages ago. There have even been deals to get it "early" (other providers subsidising 500/50 for months now).

Also if you switched to optus for the $350 cashback, this is a reminder you only had to stick with them for 60 days and you should have switched to someone cheaper ages ago.

    • Plenty of people haven't even had the $350 cashback approved yet, 5 months after changing to Optus.

      • Cashbacks are starting to feel like scams

  • I’m currently 250/25 with planned upgrade to 750/50. I’m thinking whether I save myself some money and drop to 100/20 before the upgrade and essentially then move to 500/50

    • I got an email too. Mine says it will be upgraded to 680/43. It's better wait till the upgrade and then lower your plan.
