Somewhat of a niche deal but these are the highest recommended mandolines on the market. Both the jumbo 120mm and super 95mms are available for much cheaper than you can get locally (Super $100 + postage @ The Blade Runner) . Personally I've been waiting for the 95mm super to go back in stock at Amazon at this price for 6+ months - I feel it is superior to the 120mm Jumbo as it features interchangeable blades where as the larger Jumbo does not.

    Watch your fingers. Super dangerous

Correct, worth Getting chain mesh gloves if you are getting one of these, or just get better with a knife like everyone else.

Got a Borner V5 PowerLine Mandoline Slicer Basic Set years ago for $32, probably better. Used it once and would be hard to get a $20 for it..

Though knives are sharp too. And razor blades…

      • Don't @askvictor
        Bubble boy lol

    • If you have never used this before, you need to accept that at some point you will slice off part of your finger. Once it's tasted blood you're good.

Using it, washing it, taking it out of the drawer, all dangerous.

Got these last time they were around $30. Cannot emphasise enough how sharp these are.

    • same..

    • This can adjust the thinness.

  • I’ve got a deal by two and get 12% off

buy it , if you hate your fingers

Picked up the Jumbo a few months ago and it finally shipped last week. These do come with a finger guard, which you should always use.

This video shows just how thin and fast they can slice onions

    • Just get a pair of mesh gloves, easier than worrying about the guards.

      • That’s a good idea, will have a look for a pair!

      • +2

O.o i worked in a kitchen for 10 years nd never cut myself on these…

They use them when you need specific thickness to ensure the same cook times etc.

        Just dont be complacent?

While your advice seems correct, you are a pro!

        • Just to add to this, I've been using the Joseph and Joseph mandoline for years and have never cut myself either. This is sharper, but as long as you use the guard and are paying attention when using it, I think you'll be fine!

  • How do you store these things? Do they come with a protective cover or something?

    • No cover. It's quite an old-school and simple mandolin, so no storage space for hand guards or anything. I just store sideways in a drawer with the blade facing outwards.

    • I was wondering the same thing and while it doesn't come with one, unsurprisingly there are designs out there that can be 3D printed.

      • Have you got the specs for it?

        • There appears to be a lot. Some are simple covers, others have storage for the other blades built in. Just go to your preferred 3D model site and search for the one you like the look of.

Got a Benriner years ago from an op-shop. Amazing product!

    Sharp price

For home cooks, this - Oxo mandolin slivlcer @$18 is great and I can recommend. I chopped 5kg of onions into 3L of cooked onion jam with relative ease. Hardest part is peeling the onions as the slicer made short work of it.

    • +1

will get blunt very quick i presume

      • There are ways to sharpen.

      • How do you tell if Oxo's one will blunt faster tan the Benriner one?

I'd like to get one $18 is pretty cheap so it is kind of hard to not consider it. I don't have use for 2 so I'd rather buy one that would last though.

        • +4

          Buy one cry once. Benriner.

  • Any containers for this?

  • These are such a good addition to the kitchen.

    • What do you use it for? I cook somewhat regularly but haven't thought I needed one yet. I also worry about cutting off my fingers.

      • +2

Anything that requires ultra-thin uniform slicing (radishes are a good example) and jullienning.

Great example of a dish that this is useful for is Firecracker Beef on Recipetin: https://www.recipetineats.com/spicy-firecracker-beef/

Mesh gloves keep your fingers safe and are cheap on amazon.

        • Any mesh gloves you recommend?

          • @Westpac: I got these - they've frayed a bit in the few years I've had them but still go well.

Mouth breathers will neg, but will never disagree.

    • Because a child can see that there's a difference between mass executions carried out in wartime deliberately, and poorly-planned centralised economies that lead to famine accidentally.

      • Ah yes, the accidental Gulags, Purges and prosecution of anyone that owns property, or anyone that speaks up against the government. Let's not forget the only system that STOPS people leaving their country freely is communism.

And the whole "whoops hehe we accidentally caused a multi year famine in at least 3 separate countries, causing about 100 million deaths" is not a fact glaze over.

Try again with your childhood education shit.

  • This is GOAT.
we use them in commercial kitchen.

  • which size to get?

  • +1

How does this compare vs an oxo?

  • Can you slice blocks of cheese to make cheese slices with these? The blocks are cheaper than the slices generally.

    • +2

You’d probably want cheese wire for that.

      • Thanks. Never knew of its existence ( seriously).

Save Medicare (some money) and don’t buy this.
