Was looking to replace my old XM3s and came across a decent deal on the new Sony XM6 headphones.
After discount it came to $550. I was tossing up between Sonos or XM4s since they’re cheaper, but these are really well reviewed and just released, so I decided to spend the extra. Feels like a solid upgrade at this price but I am sure the price will come down eventually.
Honest I dont think it's worth over the XM4, except when you want better mic, slight better ANC and battery life (which is already so good on the XM4). Sound quality is subjective so I dont factor it.
Agree. The XM4's are pretty solid (apart from their bass-heavy sound signature which I found incredibly disappointing even after equalizing) and I expect the XM6 would be similar. It's also insane that Aptx is still not available on many $500 headphones which makes them hard to use with a Bluetooth transmitter on a flight due to latency issues.
So mx4 is also better than xm5? Meaning no neex to upgrade from xm4 unless we have huge discount on mx5

Yep. XM5 also had lots of reports of the hinge breaking early due to poor design. On Reddit, lots of users are complaining and then say Sony tells them to kick rocks by claiming its "user created damage"
@Darkscythe: oh yes i believe, typical Sony i got speaker from Sony refub it broke in 2 months they repaired broke again after 2 weeks - repeat 3x - and they still want to repair i said full refund or ACCC!
The Xm5 is mostly a downgrade from XM4 in my opinion. From the unfoldable design to tighter clamping to my head, I'd gladly skip the XM5 (and XM6 too for the crazy price)

@piston3461: Yeah, people must be repeating what they read online, 5 is better than 4 - better ear tips, snugger fit close to the ear, similar sound signature but improved mic. Noise cancelling I find similar but it depends on the tips used. I had to change my XM4 tips because the memory foam is poor quality which they fixed in XM5.
Will xm6 have significant improvement compared to xm3?
I’m also using xm3 and the sound quality is still quite good. But the cover is a bit worn.
Should be able to source replacement parts online if you can do a little soldering.
If you mean the ear cups these are easily replaced and cheap
I was wondering the same, but got some replacement ear cups for fathers day, and I'm still more than happy with the xm3s so will be sticking with them for another ~7 years, or however old they are (unless they break of course).
I had the XM3 and really loved them. Only replacing as I lost mine. Just tested the xm6 have way better noise cancelling. Sound wise maybe 15-20% better than my partner's Bose QC. Really like the magnetic case no zippers :-). Not worth the price imo so if you have the XM3 working would wait until these are close to $300.

Way better deal imo. I feel like people just like Sony for the branding. They're the new beats in terms of popularity.
The noise cancelling on the akg is practically non existent.
