  • What is the benefits of hammer drill over normal or brushless drill btw?

    • To drill into masonry (bricks, concrete, etc) you need a hammer drill. The size of the hole and how tough the material is will determine how powerful you need the drill to be.

All other things being equal, a 'brushless' motor is better.

This advertised drill is more than powerful enough for ordinary DIY household tasks and is arguably overkill for most of what you're likely to do. At this price it's an absolute steal.

  • AliExpress has lot of DEWALT tools - but they were marked as 20V? Are they fake? And heaps of them in RedBook recently as well.

      Assume they’re fake.

    • +1

      They are almost certainly fake.

20V is the peak voltage of the battery, while 18V is the nominal voltage.
In Australia our marketing rules dont let them get away with using 20V.
I have quite a few grey market tools that have 20V labels on them and they work fine. Having said that, I think it would be a bit of a gamble on AliExpress, you might get a bargain, but more likely to get a fake.

I have a US DeWalt tool that is marked as 20V, my 18v batteries fit and work fine with it.

      • Yes, my 20V DeWalt bandsaw works well and takes the standard 18V battery. I think it was someone on here that recommended it over the Australian model as it has a slightly larger capacity.

        • They are (or should be) the exact same tool. It's to do with our advertising regulations because 20V is the peak voltage of the battery, but 18V is the nominal voltage. So in the US they brand them at 20V Max* (because they're allowed to) while here and the EU they're 18V.

DeWalt wanted to differentiate from their 18V Ni-Cd line several years ago when they introduced the current range of 18V lithium tools, so that's why they went with the 20V Max label.

          • @moar bargains: They're not the same model. There are noticeable differences. DeWalt do lots of tools that ostensibly serve the same purpose, but have different capabilities. If you care to check, both bandsaw models are mentioned in here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/895564

            • @banana365: Ah right, I misunderstood. Yeah, different model numbers will be different tools with slight variations. But with the same model number, it won't make a difference if you have the one labelled 18V or 20V.

  • 11 in Vic, across 5 stores

  • I wish that this would go on clearance - https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-xr-cordless-brushless…

    lol

  • Really good price for this drill - I bought one a couple of years back and its served me really well. Only complaint I have is that the chuck needed replacing and DeWalt had a crazy design that required deconstructing the entire drill to replace the chuck - got it done in the end but took a few hours to get the job done. For $100 it's still a bargain

  • i can't see this product in bunnings app …
    how to see??

3 left at Kotara. Had to get staff to scan the box to get the price. Was up in the locked top shelf, none down in the bays.

Snagged one along with the McLaren impact kit. Will make a good combo. Wish it was eligible for the battery and charger bonus. Cheers op.

    • same here, have been holding out for a deal!
