This sunscreen did very well in the recent CHOICE sunscreen tests. Near ATL price according to Camel.

4 HOURS WATER RESISTANT SPF 50+: This wet skin sunscreen provides very high UVA/UVB protection and broad spectrum SPF50+. Its innovative Wet Skin Technology provides 4 hours water resistance even when applied directly to wet skin, due to a hydrophobic film on the skin which helps repel water. SPF protection is maintained even when applied on wet skin.

  • Thanks op, just in time for hotter change of weather

This is the suncream I use on a hot day where I'm going to spend a fair bit of time in the sun. Just know it's not very pleasant to use. Very thick and sticky but after trying a bunch, it's one of the only ones I don't burn with.

Maybe Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body might suit you. It's a bit cheaper, performs well and not as oily. It's not on special at the moment.

  • How do u pronounce this brand? Sounds wrong in my head

Unfortunately, Choice has been sus with their recommendations lately. I used to follow them for their diverse laundry test. Then, they just seemed to go downhill from there.

To be fair, they have asked TGA to do their own testing as well. In Australia sunscreens are classed therapeutic goods rather than over the counter cosmetic product. All manufacturers/vendors must adhere to AS/NZS 2604:2021 standards. Full credit to Choice for doing the testing and starting the debate.

        • There was a different website (not Choice but I can't remember the name) or youtuber that I used that showed that plenty of end-consumer sunscreens failed independent testing for SPF 50+ rating and that it was a different La Roche Posay sunscreen that exceeded 50 SPF.

@marshmall0w2: Only 20 products from different manufacturers were tested by Choice. Only Nivea brand with multiple products recorded consistent results (SPF40 and SPF41). Other brands with multiple products testes all over the place. Cancer Council and Neutrogena tested from SPF20s to all the way to SPF50s.

Also, most brands use same base formula from a Perth based supplier, Wild Child Laboratories.

Ultra Violette pulled one of their products because of the testing. It was the most expensive and the worst performing.

        • Yes! That was one of the ones I saw! I forgot where I saw that! Was very surprised.

  • Hasn’t there been some recent studies on sunscreen and how toxic they are?

As someone who had a Melanoma removed 25 years ago I tend to be a bit careful about exposure to the Sun. My first line of defence is to minimise sun exposure, particularly in Summer. Tshirts, hat, stay in the shadows, wear sunglasses, minimise exposure during peak periods. People who think they can slather themselves in sunscreen and then go out in the Sun for extended periods are nuts.

I would be wary of shopping online purely because you don’t know the use by dates for the product.

i'm sure all the stock of more popular amazon products is new. from my recent orders, la roche-posay anthelios wet skin had an expiry of 04-2027, neutrogena ultra sheer body was 12-2026.

      • Thanks for update but I would be still be wary for that reason. With a B&M store I can see the date before purchase.

  • Fantastic sunscreen for high extertion activities. I use it for hiking and it's great.
