Hey Oz Bargain Community,

If you're flat chat, please feel welcome to skip to the details in bold below :)

I've got a few exciting announcements (well at least I think they're exciting) which have led to this special deal. We've had a number of requests for our much loved Peru and Swiss Water Process Decaf to be featured in a deal. Additionally people seem to be loving our exploration to new origins to feature unique and delicious coffee from around the world. We've recently stocked up on Peru, our long anticipated (we've been chomping at the bit for this) shipment has been delivered and we're also celebrating the launch of a brand new, rare coffee, from a coffee famous region of the world we've yet to feature…drum roll please for our first ever Jamaica Blue Mountain Single Estate Coffee!!!

Here's a little bit of insight as to how I've approached this particular gem of a coffee from Jamaica. Make no mistake you are buying not just a delicious cup of coffee, but a rare coffee and I must say it is an experience. If you want a "coffee that's a coffee" this one isn't the one for your cup and our Peru may be better suited to you, simply from the perspective of if you want a delicious coffee and think the rest of this paragraph is a bit of rambling nonsense. This extremely rare, unique and delicious coffee is a Single Estate coffee from the Wallenford Estate, which is one of the most mature coffee farms in Jamaica being active since the year 1760. I think the senses have such a powerful connection to prior memories or future goals; I literally bought a car a number of years ago because the smell of the leather reminded me of a dear friend, I mean I also needed a car at the time, but selecting that particular car over other options was decided simply by the smell inside the car. Based on personal experience when I start creating a profile to roast a coffee to, I mentally assign the coffee a personality and roast to that personality. This particular coffee in packed in high quality barrels (there's a photo of it on our roaster on the product page, I was very exited to get this roaster last year and my excitement hasn't dwindled one bit since as it's the first fully electric P12 in Australia by Probat), so I instantly thought of wine and whisky, from those initial thoughts it reminded me of the Country Club in TV series Yellowstone, so I lent into that personality and created a profile to bring out an aroma and mouth feel/body that aligned with vibe. The aroma has strong salted caramel and sweet milk chocolate notes, with subtle undertone of sweet brown spices, Oak and Leather; don't worry you won't think this tastes like leather haha just like a wine or whiskey is has the subtle aroma of leather and oak it a wonderful way, it's like the amazingly relaxing experience of sitting in front on an open fire inside while watching it snow outside. This absolutely delicious coffee has one of the best mouth feels/body of any coffee I've roasted in such a diversified way. As a filter it has a medium body with an aftertaste that just vanishes like magic. As an espresso it's is wonderfully creamy/buttery and so smooth with one of the most glorious crema I've seen on an espresso, as it dances as you move the cup the espresso just glides off the cup walls like like one of those waterwall fountains, it's truly mesmerising. As a milk based coffee like a Latte (this is the first light omni roast I've ever recommended for milk based coffee as well as black coffees), it's basically like a Fantail Lolly (so caramel and chocolate sweet) but in a way you would not feel like you've had too much sugar by going in for a second helping. This is the type of coffee that is right at home in majestic surrounding and really connects one with nature; I don't mean in a spiritual type of way, I mean connect in a way where you think "wow what I'm seeing is so special" like seeing the Northern Lights, Niagara Falls or a 400 year old tree, anything in natural that put into perspective what a small part we play in a larger world…anyway I'll end my small rambling novel and let your tastebuds decide what the experience is for you :)

  • Anyone tried the organic coffee?

    • Several people have.

    • I've tried both the Peru full-strength and the SWP decaf, and they’re both excellent. I’ve also mixed them 50:50 to achieve the same blend as featured above and it’s also very nice.

    • +1

They rotate which of their coffees are discounted each month.

      • Every 7 days you mean.

        • regardless, different coffees are now reduced.

          the old deal finished yesterday.

          • -2

@jv: Old deal conveniently ended yesterday. So they can post another ad.

            • +2

@Far Cough: Yes, so now the people that prefer these coffees can purchase them.

              I got mine last week.

              • @jv: I’d rather real deals instead of product name changes.

                • @Far Cough: There aren't any name changes recently, although one of the blends changed names a few months ago…

                  • -1

@jv: How can you be so sure?
Are you testing the beans when they change?

                    • @Far Cough:

How can you be so sure?

I've been buying them much of this year.

                      • @jv: Does each bag taste different?

                        • +1

                          @Far Cough: yes… very different.

                          • @jv: Maybe I’ll need to do my own research

                            • +2

                              @Far Cough: Maybe…

The 'Peru' one is very good, but my favourite is 'Pancake Party Blend'.

Currently drinking 'Moments to Memories'… (also pretty good)

                              Best to order 2 x 1kg and 1 x 500g to qualify for free shipping…

                              • @jv: Thanks for the recommendations I’ll try it now.

                                • +1

@Far Cough: LB coffee is very good, certainly different beans, quite good decaf as well.
Most beans are medium roasted, not very dark, lighter than many other roasters.

IMHO the best deal we have, especially when on sale.

  • Now that Aldi's pricing structure has changed/increased - I'd love some weigh-ins on how Lime Blue compares, for people who have tried both? Aldi pricing is now comparable to cheaper coffee roasters, and I'd rather support them directly.

    • +5

Not sure what sort of flavours you prefer but as someone that likes sweet coffees, it's a whole new world. I still get beans from Aldi when I'm unexpectedly out but even their Reserve SOs which works out to be $34/kg? or maybe was $32? are just bearable as ristretto and plain hard to drink as pour overs.

Medium roasts are still too dark and their plain refusal to put roast date down means you have no idea whether it's too fresh or not fresh enough.

      • Thank you! Have spent a lot of time drinking Five Senses, Seven Miles, Patio, etc - swapped to Aldi about 12 months ago but their price has kept bumping up so looking for alternatives, even if it's slightly more expensive.

      • …just looked at the bag of Ethiopian- expiry date is December 2026 lol

        • No wonder there is a war there…

    • We have the Aldi medium roast as a backup in the freezer in case our lime blue runs out early. I think the Aldi coffee is just more… flat? It is not a bad coffee, but it's just not very interesting. Whereas the lime blue blends seem to have some personality, whether that be heightened acidity or a fuller body.

      What machine/grinder are you running?

      • +2

Thank you for the info! Using an old Mazzer Luigi coupled with a Breville Dual Boiler. Not anything groundbreaking by modern standards, but I was a barista for some time so know my way around the machine pretty well. Sounds like I might give the LB a go!

    • Wish I liked Lime Blue more as they’re definitely very affordable compared to others these days.

I’ve tried Brazil Single Origin (and have another bag of Moments to Memories to try) but found it too sweet and somewhat lost in the milk. For reference I like Killer Coffee’s Darkerside and Airjo’s Centaur the best lately. I used to mix the medium and the dark from Aldi but found their luxe to be a bit lacking.

      • Airjo make good coffee but at too expensive these days.

  • +1

    Price in title?

I'm a big fan of their decaf (been ordering Lime Blue consistently for over 4 years), but the price is starting to make me consider looking into some cheaper alternatives now that it's close to $40/kg.

I can highly recommend these beans for the quality and taste, but it's up to you to decide if the price is still worth it for you anymore or not.

    • +3

Hey @safwanc appreciate the double check heads up, ran out of available characters in the title, deleted some and added a "1kg from…" now enough space to put every single price as each SKU is priced differently :)

Terrific to hear you're a "big fan" of our Decaf, so am I (haha of course an unbiased comment from me). I hear you about the price going up a bit, I wish it could be lower for the Decaf but even a slightly lower prices is just too financially risky. You may be able to find an EA (chemical decaf process) Decaf cheaper online as Swiss Water Process is more expensive, but I'd be astounded if you found much cheaper online for Swiss Water Process Decaf unless someone had reserves then purchased prior to U.S. tariffs being implemented. The U.S. tariffs have caused another coffee price storm as there's a 50% tariff on Brazil imports to the U.S. and as Brazil produces around 1/3 of the world coffee it impacts all coffee; there were predictions that the tariff would create an over supply of Brazil and thus reduce prices. However, the semi opposite has happened, Brazil reserves landed in the U.S. prior to the tariff have been snapped up quickly by mostly larger companies, which has depleted the reserves, thus creating a shortage, meanwhile at origin due to recent coffee price increases farmers now have extra reserves of cash so they can wait to sell if they think the prices will go higher as they no longer need to move stock as quickly from a cash flow perspective, so this is creating artificial shortages to compound actual shortages…if the tariffs are removed after U.S. Brazil reserves are replenished then prices may calm down again, but if the tariffs are removed before Brazil reserves are replenished then there'll still be a shortage and the price calming won't be as notable…another factor on the horizon is further reports relating to next years Brazil yields which will also impact pricing…there's been an interesting amount of curve balls from all angles getting thrown at the correct market recently, time will tell how it all plays out :)

      • So since the price rise is due to the US stock pilinig before the tariffs came in, shouldn't future coffee prices from Brazil be falling ?

        • Hey @jv thank you for your 2 cents and sincerely appreciated input recently!

You are correct in your thinking and it is a valid point, which I wish were true. However, unfortunately just as something happening in Brazil impacts coffee grown in other regions of the world due to the growing scale of Brazil, the same is true when there's a purchasing behaviour change in U.S. as it impacts global coffee prices due to their consumption scale; there's some very large companies in the U.S. that use a lot of Brazil coffee. The supply demand dynamic pivots power between origin and destination, right now the power is heavily in the farmer's hand. From a long-term business perspective I think it's a good thing that farmer's are getting more as it'll mean coffee gets better and there's less chance of avoidable shortages in the long-term. However, the current market isn't sustainable from a supply chain perspective as it's currently a game of finance where margin calls have bankrupted multi-billion dollar companies. It would be much better for everyone if prices went up gradually so Farmer's get more globally but in a sustainable pace for the industry because without stable supply chain operations everything falls apart, which means it fall apart for the farmer's too. Another thing which has changed during the wild coffee market is a good change, but a change that is unlikely to reverse is the cost of labour at origin has increased, which means whenever supply outweighs demand and prices drop, they won't drop to pre-covid prices. I personally find it so interesting that there's so many moving parts to the wonderful world of coffee, I just know that when any one part moves too quickly it risks all the other parts, slow and steady wins the race in this instance :)

  • Very happy to see more Organic options (Y)
