ALDI to Offer Solar Installations

Saw this article that aldi is getting into solar installation and battery business in certain areas

https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/german-super…

I think this is exciting if they deliver. Simple pricing and reliability. Don't need to go through random companies and doing research.

What do you guys think?

Where is the: Dick Smith told me not to option?

it will be the same as many other solar companies

the work will be just subcontracted out to a pool of installers pot luck if you get really good ones or not.

Seems really expensive compared to packages that have been posted here.

I would feel more comfortable going through Aldi than running the gauntlet with the shady carpet baggers in my neck of the woods. It's the complexity of the process (yes, I'm old) that has prevented me from pulling the trigger up until now. Knowing that I can get solar from the same place I bought my witches hat, air fryer and snow cone maker just feels a little more reassuring.

  • I see its in partnership with Tempo, who supply low priced electronics to Aldi, hn, big w etc.

  • Would this work if disconnected from the grid?

Sounds like the same thing I see at the Jaycar electronics store. They also advertise solar and battery installations but then just act as a referer and get a kickback from it.

  • If it's like Aldi Travel - provided through a third party installer - will be as good as whoever their installer is I guess. Will need to wait and see. Pricing seems right.

Looks like its come down in price a bit. DYOR. Here's the link from the previous deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/894123

  • I my option Tempo seems to be a very reliable company. They supply Sharp TV, Microwave, Refrigerators and their after sales service seems to be good. My Sharp TV's remote was not working at times and Tempo immediately shipped me a new original sharp remote without any fuss or haggling and call lasted less than 10 minutes including creating a service ticket, entering customer details and the shipping address

Im not convinced that its the best option. Sure, its cheap and backed by a big company, but theyll just subbie out the work to a local guy. And the local subbie is going to be quoting on price above everything to get the work, so you can guarantee they are going to want to do a quick and easy job.

I KNOW that id sign up, pay and then on the day the contractor would turn up and freak out at my 45degree pitch roof and either run away or try to charge me more.
