Very nice bags, used on many hand luggage only short internatioanl trips

    • Have you ever had any issues with any of the airlines while using this bag as carry on?

Not so far… Very good bag.

I have used this bag on easyJet from Paris to Pisa as a carry on - no issues, they only checked the weight.

    Specs appear to claim:
    1070 grams lightweight version.
    1200 grams the original.
The original has lots of reviews and a high Amazon customer rating.

    • yeah id go origional just because of the added strength it would bring, unless of course you are desperate to shave off 200g

      • +8

        I think you mean 130g.

Recommend this. This is a good travel bag for a 2-3 day trip. Not so much for daily use (too big!).

This is great for flights. Esp if you're going through airports where they ask you to remove your laptops and iPads.

    Great backpack.
As others have said, quite large, but well made and thought out!
Compares with bags twice the price.

So hard to tell if there is any diff from cheaper $49 Aliexpress versions. They look identical except the branding

    Can anyone confirm?

  • Can anyone comment on how this compares to the Patagonia Black Hole 40L (besides price, obvs)?

    • I have never seen or used the Patagonia bag, but from my quick search online it looks like the Patagonia is a duffel that can be converted to a backpack why the Tomtoc is a backpack with a duffle like main compartment. The Tomtoc has a dedicated section for laptops and tablets if that matters to you and I would take a guess that for carrying over extended periods the Tomtoc would likely be more comfortable due to the more structured padding on the backside of the bag and it being a dedicated backpack. The benefits of the Patagonia are likely that you can carry it as a duffel if that is what you are looking for, it has removable backpack straps, you would likely be able to pack a little bit more in it as its just one big storage section and it's seems to be able to pack away smaller when empty.

I use their sling bag and it's great

  • Thanks OP, just bought. Arrived home last night after a recent overseas trip, and the list of "what's missing from my Black Wolf Pearson 40" was in this bag - laptop access (#), passports etc on top, and luggage retaining strap.

.# although most airport security screening is now ok with the laptop staying in the bag

I have the tomtoc and it's done dozens of flights domestically and overseas. Its a great bag and I like the size (for travel, too big for most as an EDC), durability and simplicity of it.

The one complaint I have of it is that when it's sitting flat on the shoulder straps, things can slip out of the top passport area VERY easily and its not obvious whether the zipper is open or not due to its recessed nature.

The side is similar, but the contents of the bag generally keep things in the front pocket in place better. Passports + slippery material though - just be cautious.

I've put some lego keyring on the zipper pulls to help remind me to close them.

  • Thanks OP grabbed an original.

  • Original bag is fantastic. I used it on a 2 week trip to Japan in Feb and was all I needed along with my camera bag an a Tomtoc sling bag.

  • Interested in getting the new liteway version since I'm planning on doing carry on only via Jetstar to Japan (7kg carry on limit)… yeah, I know 370g saving only but every little bit counts. I liked the old version in grey but haven't seen that available in a while. Not a big fan of this light grey version either but at least it'll stand out better than black.

Didn't open an Afterpay account over the weekend and it seems the $10 saving via afterpay is now over. Bummer.

    • 1070 grams for the lightweight version vs 1200 grams the original so only 130 grams difference if you are looking at the 40L.
