Think it depends on state and postcode whether they have stock to deliver.

Available in VIC maybe grinders not in demand unlike machetes, home security and tools to steal cars with

      • Oddly specific…

        R U 🙂k?

I am fine. Just have a sense of humour about the VIC these days. I am still waiting for when the finances come to a grinding halt.

Bad reviews - form over function

Not the first time Smeg slapped their logo on an appliance and called it a day. E.g. their fridges.

Choice rated this smeg burr grinder worse than a breville blade grinder…

    • Yeah but they are reviewed at over $300 US, and compared to grinders that go for over $500 here, so for this price they are reasonable

      • I bought one and it arrived yesterday.

There is the online reviews from the sites that say not good for expresso grinding (yes reviewed at full price)

On the AO website there is reviews that people say they are happy with it for expresso

I'll get some Aldi beans and see

        • Aldi beans grind perfectly fine in my Breville express impress.
Maybe get some old Vitoria beans and see how they go.

        • A lot of home espresso machines have pressurised baskets that are designed to appear much more forgiving to stale and poorly ground coffee (in that they will still look like they produce crema).

This Sunbeam grinder for instance is way cheaper and way better reviewed by Choice: https://amzn.asia/d/gOC3EWs

          • @Gorby: Hm… I have this Sunbeam grinder, and it's not so good. I have to put weight on it for a fine grind

@eloque: I'm only going by choice reviews, so that's disappointing.

Conventional wisdom for cheapest grinders is that the Breville Smart Grinder or Baratza Encore is the entry point for decent grinds, or to go hand grinder for something below that price range (but hand grinding for espresso is a tough gig).

Of course it's easy to convince yourself to spend more on a decent grinder if it will actually stop you buying daily cafe coffee

@Gorby: Cheers. Both decently priced at Alternative Brewing, particularly the Encore. The other one would match all my other Breville Smart products too.

I've been drinking instant for a while now, since moving the coffee machine out of the bedroom (where I make and drink all my coffee) but one day I will invest in a new grinder, even though the 'pressure method' (weight on existing grinder) should suffice in the meantime.
