Help! Anyone knows where to buy an ASUS charger?

Hi

Need help urgently - bought a crappy $70 targue generic charger for my ASUS U31S last year and it died on me last night. Anyone knows where I can get a good one?

I won't mind getting them online but some of the online stores look pretty dodgy.

Any recommendation?

Your Targus charger is likely covered by a warranty from Targus.

I'd look into getting a replacement directly from them.

    • Yup I went back 4 times for replacement believe it or not and I couldn't be bothered to get the refund - was just over it, now I have given up on the targus and just looking for alternatives.

ebay seems to be the go for cheap genuine ones

    avoid china copy crap

you can try asus themselves but its expensive

  • i got one from targus and had it replaced under warranty and when that one died not long after i got a cheap one from ebay. it was about $18 with 3 years warranty and its still good about 2 years now. also i got a spare battery with the same guys for $20 bundled.

    • eBay is crowded with all sort of supppliers, do you mind posting a link to the company's ebay site where you purchased that from? It would be great help, TIA

  • I've had no returns from the Coolermaster ones we sell.

Always try to get a higher rating one than you need. Generally a 120W one will always be pretty safe.

Biggest reason these things die is because people grab the cheapest model in the shops. The lower wattage ones are always running near, at or over capacity depending on the laptop and power conditions in the home. The 120W ones don't have to work as hard to supply the laptop thus tend to last longer.

Having said that Targus is also a respected brand. Surprised to hear in the comments above there are issues with the Targus ones. Try a different brand with higher capacity. I have not had to send a single one back yet.

Yea spoke to some other techpert friends but personal experience is that Targus is really crap - as mentioned above had to return to JB 4 times to replace the charger; have a different problem with it each time. At the end they were accusing that my laptop is the source of the problem but it charges completely fine with the ASUS charger as we plugged the store's ASUS charger in on the spot.

      • Thanks AmericanDad. Duly noted. Will NOT sell or recommend Targus then at this stage.

        • Yep great way to void any remaining warranty aswell, but that is if they check your adaptor

  • I ordered and got Asus replacement powerpacks from Computer Alliance (google them and ask for Michael)

  • The problem here is output voltage, generally its common for most laptops from say Lenovo to be able to use on any Lenovo machine ie output being 20v. This doesnt count for generations of laptops

Output is actually the charge amount or level going into the laptop for the battery to utilise as charge.

If the voltage doesnt match to what is written on the base of the laptop, then it will have negative effects on battery. so more some less, easier to notice over time than straight away unless it doesnt charge at all

I would be checking the output before anything else and make sure its matched or damm close.

  • Thanks everyone, all your advices are noted! I am pretty much an ignorant noob in tech so its really helpful!
