Battery Not Exporting to Grid on VPP despite Solar Export Working

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has come across this issue. I have:
• A Sungrow inverter with ~8 kW of solar panels (solar export to grid is fine).
• A separate 10 kW battery connected via a Sigenergy system.

I’m enrolled in a VPP program but my battery does not export to the grid at all — the export limit shows as zero. Solar generation exports without a problem, but the battery portion never does.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what settings or requirements might cause this behaviour? Any tips or things to check would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

  • Standard config …

You buy a battery to use it overnight, so it's configured as storage, not as grid export :/

If you want all-in-one, you need to remove the Sungrow inverter and run it all through the Sigenergy system (but you now need the Sigenergy connected to the solar panels, mains grid, house supply and battery instead of running via the Sungrow) …

It's also how you get V2G as more battery storage ;)

    • Thanks for replying. This is the issue with getting solar and battery later.
VPP is different. Without grid export VPP is useless.

      • Not really, your VPP is assuming the Sigenergy is running everything (ie connected to mains), I am betting it's the Sungrow that is connected to mains (which won't have access to the battery) …

        • VPP they have add sungrow and battery as devices. They informed there is no issue from their side but need to contact sigenergy. I think you could be right I will ask VPP again. thanks

  • Have you called the VPP support number and asked then or thought I will post on OZB for help with no bargain at all, but needing H.E.L.P. from some C.O.M.P.A.N.Y…..

  • I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I’ve already contacted my VPP provider, and they advised me to reach out to Sigenergy, as the system should be able to export.

  • Update: Sigenergy advised me to contact my installer to increase the export limit from 0 kW to a higher level.
The installer, in turn, said they need to apply for additional export capacity and complete the necessary paperwork to increase. So fingers cross. Saying this so others have the same issue knows what to do. thanks
