Westinghouse 8kg EasyCare 700 Series WDH804N8SA Heat Pump Dryer $838 Delivered @ Appliances Online

200

IIRC recommended by CHOICE.

$838 is a great price, but use limited time $70 referral code to reduce it further (usually $50).

$1,299 everywhere else. Backordered in some states.

9kg version is slightly cheaper:
Metallic Grey and White. But user ratings everywhere are lower than the 8kg version. Not clear why.

EDIT: Price before referral code dropped another $11 (from $849 to $838).

This is a good price, I would've pulled the trigger on this had I not gotten WDH804N7WA - 8kg EasyCare 500 for $899 at Costco a few weeks ago. The main difference between the two looks like a few extra functions with the 700 series + internal light.

For anyone in the market for a heat pump dryer, there was mixed reviews between Choice recommendations & Choice reviewers, i.e LG getting outstanding in the "tests" whereas real-world usage, it would cause issues (i.e reverse tumble only 30 seconds per half hour, leading to knotted sheets).

A few tips I have to keep an eye out for:
Drying sensor - some of the models have a drying sensor, if you are like me and throw in 8kg of mixed cottons, synthetics, kids clothes, what the sensor will do is sense a smaller item is dry (i.e gym shorts) and finish the load whilst other clothes are still damp. Not a feature in my books and the only way around it is specific loads which is a big hell naww from me (ain't nobody got time for that). This model does not have that. I have weighed 8kg of wet mixed laundry, thrown in on cotton setting, maximum dryness, 3 hrs 40 mins later it's done. It's not bone dry, between 3-6% moisture remaining but not wet, hence no shrinkage and not cooked.

Reverse tumble is a big deal, I believe a few of the Bosch models don't actually heat in reverse, which is an issue. I believe this doesn't occur for this Westinghouse model.

Manufacture location - F&P is owned by Haier, it's all made in China. Some Bosch is made in Turkey now. Electrolux and Westinghouse are the same company now and are made in Thailand. Some LG products are made in China. Due to this I believe quality isn't what it was 10-20 years ago, so extended warranties, if you can get them, may save some headache.

The ALDI heat pump dryer had issues with the water sensor in the tank even though it was bypassed straight to the drain (within a week), so staying away from ALDI brands.

    • Thanks for this!

Thanks for sharing your insights! I came to very similar conclusions myself! Would’ve been happy with the 500 Series (which has gone as low as $726 with referral code), but at this price the 700 Series feels like a great deal.

The top LG model recommended by CHOICE has major issues: (1) fake reverse tumble and (2) condensers that require dissembling the entire machine to clean. CHOICE ended up revamping their heat pump tests in response to the backlash. Though they really should just remove the LG from the top spot.

    • @Jazza2400 is it easy to clean the condensers on your 500 Series?

      • Haven't yet as only had for a few weeks but I checked manual and it had nothing about cleaning condenser. I've doubled checked online manual and it includes heat exchanger but not the condenser so I will look that up. Will be hard to void warranty if they haven't done any diligence with explaining how to clean it.

  • This offer is only available for new customers. But since you're already with us, why not refer your own friends and earn $70 rewards if they buy during our Birthday Sale until 24th September 2025, or $50 reward if they buy after that?

  • Mine also came to $768 not $779 with referral code

    • Damn! Looks like the price has dropped another $11!

I would've got this but I recently fixed my Bosch heat pump dryer by soldering a new power management IC on the main control board following these instruction. I can't believe it fixed it, I only spent $5 on the new IC speed from ebay.

    • Mate good job with that, I love a good self repair story

    • Not sure about the $5. I like to know how long you spent on it :)
