Moto G84 5G Users - What’s Your Max Wi-Fi Speed?

I own a Moto G84 5G, like many other OzBargainers. With the recent NBN upgrade, my plan has gone from 250 Mbps to 750 Mbps, which is great news. However, I just found that my phone can only reach a maximum of 330 Mbps. Initially, I thought there was a problem with my router, but I soon realised it’s an issue with the phone. I have two other phones that can reach 750 Mbps without any problems. I searched online and found that many others are experiencing the same issue.

Dear OzBargainers, please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this problem

Moto G54 5G getting 150 Mbps, other Android Phone getting 440 Mbps, same WiFi

  • I searched online and found that many others are experiencing the same issue.

Is it an issue? What speed do the specs say the WiFi meant to be on the phone?

my phone can only reach a maximum of 330 Mbps

How will you live? I mean a few days ago the max you could get was 250 and you lived ok.

        ROFL …

What can you do at 750Mbps that you could not do at 250Mbps on a single device?!?

  • The Motorola G54 and G84 are budget / low end phones with 1x1 Wifi 5 radios, so the real world max would be around ~300ish Mbps.
A mid range or high end device with a 2x2 Wifi 6 radio, could get 2 -3 times that speed, hence the difference that you are seeing.

    • You have a budget phone.
    • You are feeling entitled to premium speeds.
    • You should have at least gotten a midrange phone.
    • Phones range from Pro, Flagship, Midrange, and Budget.
    • In each tier, phones compromise on quality or features.
    • Budget phones are stripped off non-essential features.
    • 750 Mbps is not essential feature, unless you are a power user.
    • Power users are expected to have Pro or Flagship phones.
    • The Pixel 8 was available for only $399 recently.
    • The Pixel 8 Pro was available for $499 recently.
    • They are both flagship tier phones, with no speed limitations.
    • That is almost as cheap as budget phones, and cheaper than RRP of many midrange phones.
    • There's nothing wrong with buying budget phones. You just waive your right to entitlement and complaints about lack of premium features.
    • Next time you should upgrade to something of that calibre when the opportunity comes.
    • Please excuse my tone. I do not intend to sound arrogant as you called someone else for being earlier.
    • Thank you for your reply. I’m not a rude person, but I felt a bit uncomfortable with the previous person’s unfriendly reply. I’d just like to discuss this calmly and constructively

1)The Moto G84 is actually a mid-range phone. I know that on OzBargain people usually get it for around $269, but its RRP is $499. That’s also why it has become one of the favourite phones among OzBargainers — because people can buy it at nearly half price. If its RRP were only $269, it wouldn’t be so popular on OzBargain, and I wouldn’t have made this post

2)Please check the two links below. Some users reported the same issue to Moto, and even Moto staff believed that 300 Mbps was abnormal and were trying to find a solution. One user even received a full refund from Moto because of this issue

3)Thank you for helping me look for alternative phones and for your suggestions. I really appreciate it

      • May I ask why you want such high connectivity speeds on a phone? I'm just curious as to your use case.

I have a G84 and it maxes out at around 300Mb/s which is fine. How are you testing? Many speedtest apps are single threaded Javascript apps, so you might also be hitting a CPU limitation.
