Kogan Agora 32" Preorder $249 Bait and Switch 1080P for 720P

A few weeks ago I pre-ordered the FULL HD Kogan Agora Smart TV for $2491, expected dispatch mid Feb.

Just got an email stating that the TV is now only 1366x768 not 1920x1080.

I believe this is can be classed as a Bait and Switch, as in their email they encourage people to stay on with the deal as 'you can be assured what you have purchased is still a low priced 32" smart TV'.
Therefore getting less for your money than originally thought.

I am very annoyed, I have already ordered a VESA wall mount bracket for it and also encouraged my Dad to buy one…Sigh.

Did anyone else also pre-order this TV?

  • I decided not too until i got peoples feedback on it. Now i wont even bother after reading this. Are you going to cancel your order?

  • FWIW I don't think full HD is essential on a 32" TV unless you want to use it as a PC monitor. Still, pretty dodgy from Kogan, and I would be cancelling my order. Unless you really need the smart TV features, I would rather pay a little more for a branded TV with far superiour picture quality (Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic). Costco recently had a Sony 40" smart TV for $430, so I imagine you could find a branded 32" dumb TV for not much over $300…..

  • Have you tried contacting them and complaining? There's no point telling us, you should be letting them know. 50/50 chance that they'll just give you an upgrade to a 1080p tv.

  • +1

Kogan have a history of this.
Advertise Diamonds, and then deliver Zirconias, or nothing at all (the original Agora phone/s is a perfect case in point).

I agree that they're leaving themselves wide open to a Bait and Switch claim.
They have no evidence that you have read, understood and agreed to the change in specification.

They should be ringing everyone to get verification or to cancel the order. And/Or the email should request you to follow a link to verify that you accept (or not) the new offer.

  • I noticed this the otherday and rang up last night, I was told they were separate batches and that I, along with others that had ordered before the change would indeed receive full HD, got the e-mail this morning saying it had been changed

I ordered it for the Full HD with the smartness as a bonus and since it no longer is full HD I cancelled my order.

Anyone know of any ~32" Full HD tv without the smartness for around this price in stores?

    • I don't know if i would trust them to be honest.

    • Check out the offers from Aldi and JB HiFi (Soniq). They usually have 32" lcd sets for around this price and with them you have direct contact if there is problems. A smarter buy than a tv from kogan imo.

  • OMG Just received a email.

I canceled the order. and am awaiting my refund.

This is the first time I have used kogan and will be the last. Made you pre order something when you are think you are getting a bargin for doing so then then kick you in the balls like this. I ordered 3 of these and decided to buy a new computer to go with these for gaming. Man I have never been caught out like this before.

Well here is the email they sent me. OMG..

    Important Order Update

32" Agora Smart LED TV (Full HD) …."NOT HD ASS HOLES"
    Dear MR……..

We wish to inform you there was a slight error (Bullshit) in the specifications of the 32" Agora Smart LED TV (Full HD) listed on our website during the time of your purchase. The resoution of this TV is High Definition (1366 x 768), not Full High Definition as advertised at the time of your purchase.

We apologise for this error (YEAH RIGHT), however you can be assured that the 32" Smart LED TV that you have purchased is the lowest priced 32" Smart TV in the country, if not the world! (FULL OF SHIT AGAIN)

If this is not suitable, please reply to this email with "CANCEL" and a refund will be processed within 24-48 hours. If you would like to proceed with your order, there is no need to reply.

    Kindest Regards,
    The Kogan Team

Lets see if they can refund in 48 hours if not I am taking this to the ACCC

  • SO what happens if this email goes to your spam or you don't check it… say for instance you receive a the tv in 2 weeks time. Some may or may not be able to tell the difference, but if you throw out the packaging as most people do you cant return it. and the shipping back to where ever this place is the send em from could cost half as much as the tv is really worth. Man oh man oh man. talk about dodgy.

  • I just got this reply from Kogan:

    Hi,

In order to keep our prices down, security is very important to us.

We need to ensure that every order is placed by the actual credit
card holder. The amount you have been charged for your order is
slightly less than the invoice total. Please check your internet
banking or call your credit card provider to find out the exact amount
    we charged for your transaction.

Once you have this amount return to the e-mail we have sent you titled
"ACTION REQUIRED - Important steps to complete order". Follow the link
on that e-mail and enter that amount, including a decimal point. Do
not include the dollar ($) sign when entering the amount.

If you experience any difficulties in verifying your order, please
reply to this email with your order reference number and the total
amount you have been charged, as per your bank statement, and we will
be able to assist you further.

    Kindest Regards,
    Jake

This has absolutely nothing to do with my reply email to them, I never got an email titled ACTION REQUIRED, so much for security being very important to them.

It's beyond rediculous, what a circus. I wish someone would pickup the phone and sorty this out.

    • This has absolutely nothing to do with my reply email to them, I never got an email titled ACTION REQUIRED,

      OK

so much for security being very important to them.

How does this comment make sense in context? Not saying there isn't a valid complaint to be made here, but I don't think poor security is it.

      • Sorry I didnt have time to edit this before your reply.

The email they sent me is 100% meant for someone else, which contradicts his opening statement of security being very important to them.

  • This is appalling. So glad i am not caught up in this shambles. Good luck to all.

  • Woo, got a full refund!

Got the e-mail yesterday at 9:05 about the change in specs, replied with "CANCEL" like it said
few hours later I got another reply about the refund being issued

An hour ago today I got an e-mail from PayPal about the refund, just checked PayPal account and (paid with debit MasterCard through PayPal) it says credited to card

Now to search for another good priced TV in stores, so I know what I get and can take it back if anything goes wrong :/

    Good luck to everyone else!

That is ridiculous. Every Ozbargainer needs to read this thread to see how dodgy Kogan really are. Not the best publicity for them!

After you get the refund, get this instead:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/92772

  • Okay, this is bull shit 6 days and still no refund, I am going to ring ACCC Now I am furious over this bullshit, they are lucky they don't have a In store in oz because I would be there kicking there asses.

I am now going to troll threads online and give the guys bad feedback. I ordered 3-4 weeks ago for a shipping date of the 3rd of feb, they then extended that, then this wrongs specs my ass. They obviously tried to scam some of us and now holding onto my money for a stupid amount of time. 4 Business days it has been now going int the 5th they said 48 hours… I pay for the item they get them money instanteously, what in the world takes sooooooooo long GRRRRRRR.

    • lol i dont want to see you on a good day :p
