You'll be better off just dealing with them directly in store rather than C&C. Call them to have some held if need be.
Edit - not official camera house statement blah blah, but work in another store and familiar with the systems.
Ah no worries, thanks! I'll give them a call later today.
Hi, you're welcome to just walk-in to purchase and pick them up! We have enough stock this week

Have stock been kept in the fridge or sitting in a warm warehouse?
What labs do you guys develop at or do you do it yourself? The lab I go to is $19 flat rate 24 or 36 for dev+scan so usually savings on 24 exp is kinda eaten away by dev costs making them about same $/shot
I get mine done at Rewind Photo Lab in Alexandria (its usually the most convenient place for me to go), I have been one in Haymarket as well as Film Do! Lab in Darlinghurst.
Rewind Photo Lab have upped their prices from around $17.50 earlier this year to $20 for a flat rate develop and scan for C41 24/36 exp. Don't get me started on 110 scanning - that costs a BOMB.
I'd like to learn to do it myself some day tho, sounds fun. But yeah you're right, the $/shot value may not be there as much - but I guess for me its more about the fun and experiencing of taking a "real" photo.
Yeah Do! Film Lab is the one I usually go to. Thing is I usually get Fuji 400/Kodak Gold for about $18/20 a roll + $19 dev fee = about $37 for 36 photos.
With a 24exp roll, even if I pay $10 for the roll its still $19 dev fee = $29 for 24 photos
I was looking at the Ilford C41 dev kit someone posted here earlier to cut on costs, but that has the high startup cost of getting a scanning setup, tools, etc., I think with my current lab costs, it doesn't really make sense to buy 24 exp rolls even on sale vs a 36 exp roll.
Oh nice! I went traveling last year to HK and Japan and tried to stop by random camera shops to buy film that looked interesting so I've got a bunch to try out (and most of them seem to be 24-30exp, funny seeing some 27 and 30exp rolls). I think I appreciate having some cheaper film stock that I can use as a baseline to see if the cameras I pickup/buy are working as intended.
Where do you normally get your film from?
Yeah the tools to get started would be a bit of an investment! I was looking at some scanning options and there are these contraptions that are ready made and you just feed through film and either take a picture of it, or they have a built in camera. Maybe I just need to also leave it to the lab (for now).
I think it was Ted's Cameras that were having a clearance on expired 1 Shot 24exp rolls for $9.95 (with additional volume pricing). The guy there said he had used it with his Canon A1 and it turned out pretty good. Wasn't sure about buying a name I haven't heard of but we'll see how these turn out I guess.
@The-Real Team Doge: Sadly I wasn't into film photography yet when I went to Japan last year, would've loved to pick up some Fuji 100 rolls to try out, I think they run around 1400 yen for 36 exp. which seems pretty standard.
For now, I've gotten my film from George's Camera for $20 for 36 of Kodak Gold, bit less for ColorPlus
Digidirect I've gotten around $18 for a 36 of Fuji 200 and around same price for Fuji 400 when they run the eBay 20% off codes.Or about $23 otherwise.
Recently I've gotten HP5+ from JB Hi-Fi, was surprised they stocked it, they had stock of that 1 Shot brand as well.
Gonna be traveling to SEA soon, think the film cost will be about the same, but the dev cost is gonna be like a fraction of what it costs here, I will see how the quality is though.
Usually paying around $18-20 for a roll of 36 is my standard, but when I get locked in I do want to try a more premium film stock like Cinestill 800T
@Jasonissm: Thanks for such a great list of places to look at (and the various types of film stock!) I'll have to keep an eye on the sales then it looks like.
The little shop that I did my develop and scans when I was in Japan charged just over $23 but it was one of those shops that have been doing this for decades with all the equipment just next to him. It was super cool, and he was super knowledgeable.
Have fun in SEA! Definitely lots of cool things to capture there and would like to know how you found the processing and scanning there (if you remember this comment haha)!
George's Camera for $20 for 36 of Kodak Gold
FYI, you can get Fuji 200 for $18. It's basically Fuji-branded Kodak Gold
I'd like to learn to do it myself some day tho, sounds fun
Sounds fun…but still a lot of work/pricey to DIY imo - even back in the day when i worked in a camera shop that had on-site dev and scan facilities and i could get staff priced materials and had access to staff members who had literally like 40+ years in film dev and scan - i still found it hard to justify home dev+ scans.
Good to know! I had a friend pass on some canisters and tells me its great to DIY it - but he comes from the good old days so maybe just maybe it was better then. Maybe the idea of playing with chemicals is what sounds fun.
@The-Real Team Doge: My old work mate used to talk about it with great fondness… but he had also spent like 35 years doing it since a teen and had a dedicated room in his house for it..
Scanning 110 absolutely sucks compared to 135… That's why :-)
Tho I did scan a customer's old found 110 roll a week or so ago, we were able to date it to 1986, and it actually wasn't too bad?
I could sympathise with the guys at Rewind Photo Lab after they told me they have to manually do it each by frame and upon realising each frame is like a thumbnail's size 😅
@The-Real Team Doge: Yes, it's a right pain 🤣
I use a fuji sp500 for 135 scanning and it's like 3 mins per roll including previews, corrections etc, it's scary fast if you're used to flatbeds. Each final exposure only takes a couple of seconds.
110 (for our very low volume at least, idk if there's better tools for bulk) is just back on the Epson flatbed and might take half an hour of intermittent work, and yes that fiddly frame selection!
I bought my own plustek 8100 scanner from marketplace for $300 a few years ago. Now I just get development-only from Pixels Plus in Crows Nest for $10 and scan myself.
This was something else I was thinking of, scanning myself! Would you say you had to wait around for a decent deal on a negatives scanner on Marketplace?
It's showing as $49.95 in my cart, I've selected to pick up from the Drummoyne store.
