To be honest, I don't understand the hype around JW Blue, especially at this price point. These days Costco sells Hibiki for around $175 and I think it is a much better whisky

I don't think there is hype around it. It's probably the most recognisable "nice" whisky (it's the only whisky label my dad knows). Therefore, it's usually bought as a gift, rather than for personal consumption. Not to knock it, but typically, whisky drinkers already know which ones offer better value. In my opinion, these function much like those expensive Japanese fruits; it's a safe gifting option.

The singleness epidemic has created a lot of blue laballs too

  • Better buy a decent single malt for half of this price than a cocktail of single malts

I like bushmills 10yo, or bourbon get makers 46

Aberlour 12, Old Pultney 12, Balvenie, Dalwhinnie 15, and Aberfeldy 12 are regularly between $90-$120 with offers

If you wanna go bit cheaper than above then Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12, Glenmorangie 12 and Tomatin are really good options

  • Aww what? Where are the 'this goes great with AC Cola?' jokes /s
