Porting out of JB / Telstra Then Back Again

My wife is currently on a monthly JB contract (contract needed so just month to month)

She wants the new iPhone Air and JB has $1000 off a new iPhone on a $89 plan + trade in on top essentially making it free for her

However JB doesn’t allow us to use her existing number unless we port out to say Aldi mobile which we can. The caveat is it’s a 30 day wait from what JB staff said

Is there no way for her to keep her number and not wait 30 days to port out then port back in?

The right person at Telstra could green-light this, right? i.e Get phone on new number, then port. Try calling Telstra's retention department, they've surely dealt with this question before and they want your money….
    …unless perhaps it's after 4pm on a Friday.

    • it an interesting question but could be a bit messy as the offer is through jb…but going though the portal - at this point with so many shenanigans from users that abuse the system like instant cancelling to retain gift card id be surprised if there is a way around it.

is 30 days really that long? its not like there is no service during the time - and porting is GENERALLY very straight forward.

    • It’s not that it’s long it’s the deal ends in 2 weeks

      • Just port out from JB now and act as a new customer the next day. You have no loss but high chance of success. Please report the 30 days caveat is applied or not.

  • Actually why even bother with JB and Telstra

If reception isn't an issue, and you're not opposed to Vodafone, you can get $1399 off any iphone if you sign up 36 months on a $69 a month plan with vodafone at the Apple store

    Much better deal overall

    • That was what I did for my Iphone 15, I'm now with Vodafone, and I'm looking to do something similar e.g port out to boost and port back in to Vodafone once my plan expires in October.

I expect this 30 day thing applies regardless of carrier

    • also TCB has 110% back on the first month.
