New Hyundai i30 Purchase - Not Sure if Dealer Extras Being Offered Are Worth It

Just purchased a new i30.

I got a later email with these pre-delivery offers. Not sure whether any of them are worth following up on. No price details with the email.

Thoughts please, my car will be under carport and used for suburban driving in Melbourne. About 15k kilometres per year.

Thanks

It's an i30. You don't need any of those things. Just sort out a cheaper dash cam setup.

    • Never had a dash cam before is there a recommendation?

Redtiger is popular/often on sale - I use it for front/rear and its' decent.
Viofo is another often on sale/popular here.

        100% get a dashcam, though.

        • Is there any benefit going for more expensive blackvu3?

          • @ATTS: Not really. Unless it has a specific feature you want.

Most of them use the same or similar lens anyway so quality won't be massively better to spend 3x more.

They may have better support though or software or companion app. Ymmv.

            • @ReaperX22: Oh right thanks

Btw do all dashcams use starvis 2 now?

100% get a dashcam. It may protect you one day. I'm not an expert but Viofo is the common go-to and frequently on Amazon discount. Get both front and rear cameras and a local installer to wire it up properly (approx $200 labour?). Just don't pay the ridiculous dealership referral markup prices.

        • What does wire properly mean btw?

          • +1

@ATTS: Probably hard-wire into the car battery. So it has constant standby power and can detect a bump or crash when you're not there/car isn't on.

The properly part is because a poor install will just lead it to draining your car battery etc. In an EV that may be less of an issue, however. For me I've just got mine setup front and back via USB. I've yet to hard wire.

            • @ReaperX22: Thanks, i see.

Oh Usb like similar to connecting to cigarettes lighter also

@ATTS: Wiring properly should also mean the cables are concealed behind trim panels etc, not just laying on top of everything where they can get snagged.

yeah, you don't need anything. If you want tinted windows, just get it done at tint-a-car or something after delivery.

Get it all, a car is likely the 2nd most expensive thing that you are ever going to purchase in your lifetime so get it all.

Get window tints, paint protection, seat protection, ceramic coating, carpet mats and then rubber mats to put on top of the carpet mats. Make sure you have a car cover put on while your car is sitting in the garage, add air conditioning in the garage so it is temperature-controlled and so on to keep the longevity of the car.

ofc, im just mucking around with this post.

TLDR - get nothing from the dealer as prices are often inflated. Whatever you choose/want/need, do it independently and save $$ which is the true OzB way.

  • Did you see the ming mole.

If the dealer is offering it, just assume there is a 1,000% mark up on it.

After market warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. Same with "paint and dent insurance". There is usually a totally unreasonable and virtually impossible set of terms and conditions you need to adhere to maintain the warranty.

And $600 a year for a car wash club? Did you walk in there with Mickey Mouse ears on or something?

You will get better quality tint cheaper from finding your own tinter to do the work.

And those dash cams just look like rebadged Chinese mass produced models that are $30~50 on AliExpress.

And put "windscreen replacement" option on your insurance. It will be less than some dealership offered "club".

Additional warranty for a new car? Nope. The factory warranty is suffifcent amd pretty long these days.

Scratch and dent? Typically a rort. They take your money then try to get put of doing any repoars.

Car wash club? Depends what it is. $600 spunds like a lot of money to wash a car, but if its a service youd use and have easy access to, then maybe. Mostly these have conditions that mean itll cost more than going to the local car wash (assuming you cant wash at home) AND itll be too hard to get to or actually get a booking.

Windscreen protection? Didnt go to the link, hut you can get windscreen cover on your insurance and probably cheaper.

Tint and dashcam is up to you. But itll likely be cheaper and probably be better elsewhere aftermarket.

    Inb4 should I spend 5k to PPF my i30

  • If the window tint is under $400 then thats the only thing I'd go for. The rest is a waste of money or can be obtained much cheaper elsewhere.

  • They never offer the extras until you’re in the room and lying down, usually it’s right near the end, when you’re all oiled up and relaxed, that they ask if you want the full service.

  • Get them all at the price included in the post as the price included is a bargain…..

I have an i30 base model. Skip all those things and spend a few hundred on good quality front/rear dash cam and ceramic tinting.

I got a Thinkware kit for under $500 (retail $800) on sale at Supercheap and around $400 for S9 Rayno ceramic tint.
