  • how do these fair to the ebay 200 to $300 projectors

sorry complete newbie to projectors but interested in one.

    • +1

ebays are not worth it. This is much better. The ebay ones are usually really low res (output is but they might state 080p and in small letters write input only downscaled to xxx)

  • I'm so tempted.

Do these take long to 'warm up'? Say I wanted to play some ps3/watch a movie how long would I have to wait before it's watchable?

    • Doesn't take long at all, own one of these and takes around 30 secs - 1 min max.

    • +1

It's not long. I'd say 10-15 seconds. Then maybe another 10-15 seconds till its at full brightness. I'd test, but mine is currently in a box as I'm in the process of moving.

      • This is about right for mine.
I can turn on my HTPC and projector simultaneously and just catch the last bit of the BIOS text, I reckon that's no longer than 10 seconds.

  • Also $15 shipping to Melbourne. Free shipping to Sydney it seems.

  • Are these projectors given a new bulb or are they under a certain number of hours?

    • It's advertised as having:

      "6,000-Hour Long Lamp Life

A special cooling technology is incorporated to prevent the lamp from overheating, lowering the cost for lamp replacement significantly. The lamp life is further extended to a maximum of 9.6 years* under the Eco Mode"

I would be expecting that as no other mention made of lamp life on the page.

  • refur has 3 months warranty vs a brand new $200 extra for a 2 years warranty from this post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91415 check store stocks as out of stock online.

  • Honest question, wouldn't this have at least 1 year warranty under the new(ish) consumer guarantees?

    (Sellers must) "include the text:
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure."

    • Nope there is no minimum warranty period, those are for new goods. For this, you're willingly purchasing a faulty second item that has been repaired and at a discounted price to reflect that its second hand. That's why outlaying so much money on second hand stuff with virtually no warranty is not worth it.

  • How does this compare to the W1070 for under $1k at OW (other than 3d and price)?

    • +2

I have both the W1060 ( that I'm planning on selling soon) and the W1070.. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted the W1070 but I'm glad I upgraded… better colour reproduction (blues are not as accented), improved contrast, and less annoying noise (my 1060 is currently with benq being checked out to see if the fan noise was just a fault or not)..

If you suffer from rainbow effect, the W1070's RBE is far less noticable (6X colour wheel vs 3X on the 1060 - the wheel still spins at the same rate but where the 1060 is RGB, the 1070 is RGBRGB). It's still there, I see it, but now its far less pronounced and I actually enjoy what I'm watching.

On board speakers are still crap (best to use dedicated speaker system)… Lastly, 3d waiting on 3rd party generics which may or may not work - benQ originals are ~ $140 which I think is a rip.

Also throw is improved on the 1070 - so you get a far bigger picture than with the 1060 from the same distance away from the wall…

In short, I'd take the 1070 over the 1060 any day —

The 1060 is however suitable as a games projector which it does an amazing job…

Overall both the 1060 and 1070 (more so the 1070) represent amazing image reproduction for the cost - pair it up with a nice decent 5.1 system and you'll impress any one….

  • I don't know how good this specific model is, but also on the page is:

$220 for a refurbished 24" 120Hz monitor is a great price for such a product, basically all of the new ones that I've found are around $400-500. Could be pretty good :)

EDIT: After reading a few reviews, this seems to be a top standard monitor, aimed at gamers. It offers a few bits of functionality just for such usage, and being a 120Hz panel it's brilliant for fast paced stuff (or any games really). It is coming up to 2-3 years old now, but nevertheless $220 is brilliant for such a thing.

  • I purchased this deal from benq 2 weeks ago. They use TNT to deliver. Just watch that. I ordered. On a Wednesday, Benq dispatched it on a Friday and TNT had it sittting in there dispatch for the week and I rang Benq to ask where it was and to get the consignment number and it was then delivered that day. The driver apologised and said that he wasn't working Monday ootherwise he would have delivered????. Anyway, did heaps of research and this is a great deal. Mine looks brand new, with all the original plastic on the unit in the original box with only 3 hours on the lamp. Amazing projector, super clear picture and fast warm up and cool down times. I shoot on a white wall at the moment and use pc and ps3. It is very good. Do it.

  • I got one and it looks brand new. Great deal ! It's an excellent unit for $595.

  • Sold out, really wish I hadn't dilly dallied

    • The thing is I dilly dallied as well… before I posted it up! I had a look at some reviews and cheapest available etc. In the US they are $599 so there's another option for you - brand new. $99 shipping on ebay etc check it out.
