WW sells their dishwashing powder for $3.90/kg or cheaper at Big W for the 3kg tub. Rated better than Finish, but in any case significantly cheaper.

    • Is that the strike brand?

Assuming you typoed, but yes it is the Shine Brand. Sky blue bottle. 8c per wash, so cheaper than all tablet sales outside of Catch closing down sale. Plus you can do as Technology Connection says and add the crucial first-rinse amount by adding some detergent on the door.

        • Have used Shine before but it leaves some odour after every wash. I have also tried Wash Wild dishwashing powder but it doesn't clean very well

@Username Taken: I've been warned that NOT using Finish Powder or using cheaper powder can make your stainless steel cutlery go black….
I started to see that using Exonic, went back to Finish.

        • I clicked on the other products included in the link and they seem to have better results according to Choice, particularly with the hideous egg yolk

Nice shout out to Technology Connections. While I still use Finish tablets for the main wash, after watching his detergent packs video, I also started sprinkling just a bit of Shine powder concentrate on the door in the pre-wash area, and it works great.

    • It’s even cheaper at $10.80 at the moment

  • Do you need to use rinse aid with this?

    • We don't use it

      We do use it

Does this imply that there is a Start Concentrated Dishwashing Powder?

    • This one is from Finland.

Consistent with others I know, I started seeing spots on stainless steel cutlery blacken with this, and it left residue on my plastic containers.

I use the aldi one and haven't had any problems. It's in addition to the tablet though, plus rinse aid

    • I use the aldi powder for prewash

  • +1

I second the Aldi powder - less scent/ stench than Colesworths powders. Props to ATangk for the Technology Connections prewash hack mention :-)

    • Aldi powder leaving residue.

Powder lasts like 6 months for my use so will spend a bit more

    • I'll third it. We use less than the 20gms and dishes are still clean. It's about a half tablespoon in main and less than half in pre.
We've got a cheap dishlex that's cleaning so well, can't find a reason to upgrade it till it breaks

  • how does this stack against tablets?

    • Perfectly suitable.
Unlike tablets, you can control dosage. You might find you only need a fraction of what a tablet would dose - money saved.

Dishwashing tablets are too expensive nowadays. Even the Finish powder is expensive. I use the Aldi powder and also Woolies' Shine powder. Both work very well and affordable.

use Aldi powder .. $3.50 1 Kg, great with my Bosch Dishwasher

    • Just wondering if there is any residue(detergent) left over in the dishes?

  • How do we use powder…just drop spoonful in washing machine ?

      Here's a good resource https://is.gd/4c8cHt
      Jokes

depends on your machine obviously, but most have a receptacle for powder/tablets.
You don't need to measure anything - it's not medicine. It's just soap.

I just pour until I feel happy.

Try to lower the dosage as you go and you might learn you only need a small amount per wash; huge benefit over tablets is you control your own dosage

      • Great. I've been using tablet since day 1. Never used powder but will try the Shine ones after seeing all the comments.

Another comment supporting the Aldi version, $3.69 for a kg at my local and does the job perfectly. I can also vouch for the Woolworths and Coles ones but they're slightly more expensive at $3.90. I'm hoping that if enough people get the Aldi one they'll consider selling a bigger pack for even more savings.
