December 2025 is going to be the deadline apparently for major social apps to provide their own 16+ verification by having you to make funny faces in front of your phone, or upload a copy of your ID.

so what will you do? do those things and keep using those apps? or just delete account and uninstall those apps? <poll below>

also there is already a thread on reddit. most of the unhelpful comments are basically "it's a bad idea, I don't like it or trust it, it's going to lead to bad things it shouldn't happen" but they don't seem to explain the good alternative or way it should be done. at least I think they don't fully understand it judging by how they are ghosting.
I would prefer not just reading about how people dislike it if it helps filter the comments a bit here.

but a interesting comment in my opinion was "getting people off these apps is the intended purpose". so that's what they want? social media is doing harm to brains so they want mostly everyone off these apps?

also at the moment the vpn trick seems to be working and doesn't make the verification pop up. but I remember reading somewhere that vpn services are onboard with the verification thing, so the vpn trick might not work forever. soon they might make a special tunnel just for google/youtube etc and the vpn trick won't work.

also just a personal thought. but if you choose the face option and it tells you to raise your eyebrows and smile and show your teeth. maybe that's basically training a ai on a accurate complete scan of your face, so it can be used in the future by some bad person to make you say and do whatever they want. I mean data is data right and it's one of the most valuable things right now, so makes sense for corpo's to milk it if you offer it for free.
just a thought maybe don't do the face option. 😂
also apparently using webcam software to make facial expressions of a game character, then use that video in OBS for the face scan method works at the moment.

    also please correct me if I am wrong. but google account is many services including Youtube. so maybe Google Drive and Gmail will require verification too?

    other examples: Tiktok, Youtube Shorts, Instagram, X, Whatsapp, Telegram, Linked in, Discord, Twitch, Line, Xiaohongshu!??

    also Dec 2025 is apparently the deadline. so I think any of these apps/sites can ask for verification anytime between now and the end of the year.

      no. all accounts including existing. but the list of apps seems to change still.

      online id and apparently not restricted to AU. US and UK are doing the same thing, probably EU too.

      the media will say it's meant to prevent under 16 people to stop from using social media. but it might have the effect of most people stop using social media (walk in the sun instead, good?). because people are worried their identity will be stolen because the ID is uploaded to third party, which can not follow it's policy or be hacked. <—- this is from what I have read, I am not a expert.

      yeah maybe. from what I hear you have to do it through webcam feed though. maybe Nano banana video generation will be good enough. same concept as what I mentioned in post, make a video that's not of you, use OBS to stream that to verify through webcam feed.

      I read people in the UK have been successful by using a animated face of the character from the game Death Stranding.

      what I wonder is though like other verification process, it has to be on going right? so maybe the exact same video won't work a second time (maybe the second time also compares your features to the previous time, so ai won't work second time). I think you could make the entire faking process easier by just using face tracking type character model software like Facerig which can do webcam feed directly and all your future attemps movements will be unique.

      if the online id verification is just once and done permanently, it would make it too easy to get around?

    The only "social media" i use is youtube. I've had my gmail account for more than 2 decades so hopefully will not have to verify my ID.
