Woolworths Everyday Mobile Are Forcing Me Onto a Newer Plan

I am on a fairly ordinary $20 / month plan with Woolworths Everyday mobile (Phone Plan 20: unlimited national calls, 3gb month data).

Despite originally getting my S10+ phone from them, they are forcing me to upgrade to a $28/month plan with 5G access (despite not having a 5G compatible phone).

Seems crazy, as I don't think the current plan was anything special. Favored them, yet they are forcing me to go elsewhere as there new $28 plan (which I cannot even find on their site, is even less special).

Go figure, because I cannot.

To be honest, I didn't even think that they could force me to change from a grandfathered plan.

I didn't even think that they could force me to change from a grandfathered plan.

Have you read the terms and conditions, specifically
Changes Everyday Mobile from Woolworths can make

    • I have not, but you hear about people on grandfathered plans from Telstra all the time. Seems to be used as an incentive to retain the customer.

Grandpa died. There’s a new man in town now

        • Damn, when was his funeral, I missed it, I so wanted to go, he was nice …..

Grandfathered plans exist, but they're not an entitlement. A company can't keep people on old plans forever, but they do far a while for <reasons>. It will always end eventually.
          EDIT: Replied to wrong post

Does your plan still have the 10% off a shop?

    • +1

I just shop at Aldi which easily negates that.

      • No it doesn't… Aldi don't do half price specials plus 10% off…

        • +6

Half price specials are a marketing scam. Please hand in your OzB membership.

Half price specials are a marketing scam.

            But cheaper than Aldi…

          • +1

@WatchNerd: Yes and no. Sure it's a marketing scam, but only in the sense that they've jacked up the regular price on a bunch of products, so they can offer the "half price" deal every month or two without losing profits. Some of that might be driven by suppliers since I understand Woollies/Coles expects them to wear the cost of discounts, but I have no inside info so just an assumption.
Bottom line as I see it, their "half price" deals are usually still the best price you'll find on many of those products, so I mostly stock up with enough to get me through to the next time they run the same deal. E.g. my favourite cereal goes half price roughly every 3 months, so last time I bought 35 packs lol.

    • Yes, it does.

So basically, it is a free plan as you can get up to $50 back each month.

        • +1

IF you can get $50 off…
May work for some but I rarely save more than $15 per month. What's the biggest shop you did at Woolies last month?

            @High:

I rarely save more than $15 per month.

So that would make your mobile plan $15 cheaper then…

            • @jv: Also you can get 10% off per month by subscribing to everyday extras so I'd say it's only worth $6…

What's the biggest shop you did at Woolies last month?

            Probably around $350ish….

    I mean obviously they can.

They were saving you from yourself.

If you want to stay with them just get the 12 month 215GB prepaid plan for $250 which equates to $20.83 per month.

    Problem solved.

      That is a $0.83 increase…

      • Damn math checks out, my apologies. A lot more data though to make up for it.

Thanks, if I was going to stay with them I would consider this.

No Woolworths 10% off though, not that I used it very often.

To be honest, I didn't even think that they could force me to change from a grandfathered plan.

You're on a month to month plan. They don't have to grandfather you in to that plan.

they are forcing me to upgrade to a $28/month plan with 5G access (despite not having a 5G compatible phone).

    You are free to leave.

    • Yes, and I will.

      • -2

So you'll be worse off then if you regularly shop at Woolies.

        • +1

Will they not be getting their Woolies worth?

  • +1

I dread the day that they will remove the $150 annual / $75 6 month long expiry plan with 10% off a shop.

I've got four of those and with the 10%, the plan is basically free.

    • I don't see those plans, not available anymore?

      • -1

No, the plans are no longer available - have been grand fathered and I've set them on autorenew. As such, they could be pulled anytime :(

  • Unless you are shopping for a large family the 10% off once a month may not be enough to offset the increased fee to $28 month on new Woolies Mobile plan. For us its not worth it as Coles are very aggressive in their promos at the moment and we shop there as well as Woolies. The new mobile plan that best suited us was the annual prepaid plan with OnePass Mobile.

  • Go 365day prepaid much cheaper kogan woolies other providers offer it
