Get your minds out of the gutter!

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863801 looks like they havent changed their logo from last year haha

    • Oh, you were the OP of that deal!

  • That's one thing that Vic is progressive about.
In NSW you'd be lucky if the NRMA van doesn't run you over.
North Sydney council is NIMBY, and happy to squander other people's money on a monumentally excessive swimming pool upgrade (I wonder if they'll have a statue or bust of the mayor that comissioned it)

  • Just finishing my first free year with it. Never had to use it. This product is for some people (serious cyclists riding far from home or a train station), but perhaps not everyone for $47/year.

A few indicators you may not need Bike Assist (but to each their own):
    * You never cycle too far from home or a train station that can get you near home if your bike becomes unrideable.
    * You always have a partner/friend/other person who are willing to pick you up if something happens (and you don't mind asking them!).
    * You carry spare tube(s) with you and compressed CO2 canisters and regulator (and know how to use them to change a flat)
    * Your bike is reliable. Meaning, it has working parts and is cared for and serviced either by you or a professional.
    * You ride relatively safely and not hotdogging it and putting yourself and others at risk.

    • Valid points.
      My 50c here:
      * better not to rely on train to get home as all 3 times of 3 times over 2 years when I needed a train to get home with my bike 'buses replace trains' happened
      * a partner/friend/other person also needs to have a large car e.g., a coupe or small sedan is not an option

      • I'm not sure a Corolla counts as a large car, and m bike fits in without even needing to remove a wheel.

        • I should have added: “as long as you know how to remove the front wheel, it can still fit in a small sedan”.

8 x $50 cab fares when you are too "fatigued" to ride you bike home from the pub seems like good value for $47.

      • I wasn’t thinking creatively. This is good!

  • I wonder if this will work for escooter/electric skateboard rides home with flat battery. 2/3 times when I ordered uber, uber driver drove away once saw my discharged ride

    • -1

I’m going to say ‘No’. It’s not because I know the actual answer. It’s just because cyclists (like myself) hate e-scooters and electric skateboards. Sorry, mate.

    • +1

It works for a camel. The cabbies who pick you up don't care. Also your bike can be stolen.

  • I had it last year. Called them as I had a flat tyre. The guy who turned up was a standard road service guy. He had no idea how to change a bike tube and didn't have the right equipment. I was told to get a taxi. Problem is that only the maxi taxis can carry a bike easily and the order cost is about $25.

So this is only worth it if you use it to get a standard taxi. Use it like a taxi voucher from time to time.

    • Or own a foldable bike that can fit in the boot of a sedan.
