Recommendation for a Gaming PC/GPU for GSPro (Golf Sim Software)

G'day all. I have a decent grasp of PC building/components but I'm trying to work out the best way to go with a gaming PC that would be running GSPro which is golf sim software that works with a launch monitor.

GSPros recommended requirements are at the bottom, but the GPUs they refer to are all out of date now.

I guess I'm basically asking which current GPUs are the closest equivalents to a 3060Ti or a 3080?

Is a 4070Ti (for 1080p) or a 4080 (for 4k) the minimum I'd want?

Also, are AMD GPUs worth considering and, if so, what would be the equivalents?

Thanks heaps.

GSPro requires a Windows PC (Windows 10 or Windows 11)

Recommended minimum hardware for 1080p play:

10GB free space
GTX 3060
16GB memory
Stable internet Connection
Ethernet port and/or BT depending on Launch Monitor

Recommended hardware for a great 1080p experience:

20GB free space
RTX 3070/3060ti GPU
16GB memory

Recommended hardware for a great 4k experience:

20GB free space
RTX 3080 (or better) GPU
32GB memory

Depends on the resolution you will run! Here is a nice video of some upgrades that can benefit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2o1m_Xy67Y

As for modern GPUs / AMD GPU that can do a similar job, check TechPowerUp charts, for example: the 3080 shows other GPUs under "relative performance" ;)

    (within 5% of 3080 are AMD 6800XT, 7800XT, 6900XT, 6950XT, 7900GRE and Nvidia 4070) - so get the cheapest!

    An AMD 9070 is 26% faster and can be found ~ $900 - a 4070 is 3% faster and is ~ $920

Do the same thing with the 3060 Ti!

(within 5% are AMD 6750XT and 6700XT) - so get the cheapest (can no longer get 3060 Ti, 6700XT nor 6750XT new)

    5060 is 11% faster and ~ $480 while a 9060XT is 15% faster and ~ $465

    • Thanks heaps for the effort you put into that. Those are exactly the types of resources I was after.

  • Or you can go used and save some money. I bought a 3 month old 3090 when 40 series was announced and it's killed every game I've thrown at it. If you only really play GSPro you'd have no issue with something similar.

    • Yeah that's not a bad idea. Is FB MP the go?

No point going for 4K if the output isn't going to be 4K (a projector in this case, I imagine?)

    • Just planning on outputting to a tv beside the net, at least to begin with.

I'm not super interested in 4k tbh, but I figure it might be nice to have the capability if it isn't going to cost much more.

  • I have a pretty fully on flight sim setup, because I can't afford a F/A-18.

Will this sim be better than a driving range/golf course?

    • "better" is very subjective. A golf sim doesn't really replace the range or course, it's just an extra. Good for hitting balls at night or in poor weather. You can get some swing and ball metrics that you can't get otherwise, so good for working on certain aspects of your swing/game too.

Also good to get a few mates around and hit some balls.

      • Ah ok, if it's just for extra just buy the best card you can afford.

  • 4070 is plenty for 1080p GSPro and for 4K a 4070 ti super or 4080 is ideal. Amds RX 7800 XT and 7900 XT/XTX are great value alternatives with more VRAM. Aim for 16 GB RAM for 1080p, 32 GB for 4K and a recent i5 or Ryzen 5 CPU with an SSD for smooth performance.
