New Laptop - Budget $1,000

I’m moving into the mortgage broking space and have been recommended to purchase a laptop with the following specs at a minimum.

Intel Core 5, Core 7, Ultra equivalent
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
Windows 11 Pro

I’ve been recommended this deal but wondering if anyone has a better suggestion in terms of price or offer. Have a few JB gift cards so that would be a bonus but not essential.

Thanks in advance!

  • Budget? Screen size preference?

    • Around $1k, 15” preferred but would accept 14”

  • I was looking at This , i am holding out till black friday/cyber monday to try and get the best bang for my buck, that recent lenovo deal looked alright but it is now sold out

    • I like the price point. Would prefer intel, only has Windows Home but assume it wouldn’t be difficult to upgrade to Pro

      • -1

This is the lenovo one from the other day, it was $729, out of stock though

  • +1

Are you planning on using bitlocker? If not, you don't need Windows pro.

Otherwise your specs cover pretty much every laptop on the planet these days. I would assume most of the software is web-based anyway?

Key question would be whether you ever need to show what's on the screen to another person, or whether portability is key. That'll decide the screen size. If it's for work though, I'd probably look at warranty and turnaround on getting it fixed, or what your contingency is if it breaks.

    • I’ll be working as part of a group who will need their software installed. At times there would be a requirement to show screen but that would be minima.

  • If use case is excel, internet and other small stuff i would go snapdragon, much better battery life and performance is still great, just make sure its fully compatible.

  • Not open to a MacBook?

    • Unfortunately not, will stick to what I know despite being in the rest of the Apple ecosystem.

  • Would features like 2-in-1 touch screen be useful?

    • I think it’s a nice to have but not necessary, would blow out the budget too. I’m thinking a numeric keypad would be helpful so leaning towards a larger screen sat 15” plus
