What happens on the night?

From 5-10pm on Thursday 23 October 2025 avoid using your taps, showers, or running water.

With a little preparation it's simple to take part, but you'll be surprised to see how often you reach for the tap!

To help you make the most of the event we recommend you prepare by pre-filling some water bottles, kettles, sinks, etc before the event starts. This is not a deprivation event, but rather an awareness event.

• Do I have to go without running water for the whole night? No, we simply ask that you don't use any running water from 5-10pm.
• Can I flush my toilet? Yes, however, reduced flushing is encouraged when appropriate.
• Can I wash my hands for hygiene? You may use your taps for hygiene and religious reasons.
• If you or other family members would like to get crafty, we have handy tap guardians you can print out, colour and place around your taps or wrists to remind you not to turn on that tap!
