Amazon Prime Delivery Funny Buggers ?

I can’t be 100% sure but I think maybe I caught Amazon playing funny buggers with an Amazon Prime delivery today. Let me explain.

I’m an Amazon Prime member and I ordered something Monday which was listed as next day delivery for Prime members.

Now I wasn’t in a hurry for it so when it didn’t arrive Tuesday I wasn’t too bothered.

This morning (Wednesday) my item arrived courtesy of a dude in a private car, and because I happened to be in my garden at the time, I noticed that he also made a delivery to my next door neighbour.

My neighbour gets many more Amazon deliveries than me so now I’m wondering if this explains the occasional times I don’t receive my next day Prime deliveries until a day or two later.

Or maybe I’m just getting cynical in my old age 😎

Edit: To be clear, I don’t think it was the driver who held onto the package.

The reason being I didn’t receive notification from Amazon that my parcel would be arriving today (one day late) until this morning.

They're implying the bloke held on to the delivery for a day until he had a delivery for next door so he could do both with one stop. I very much doubt Amazon allows drivers to miss scheduled deliveries without consequence or how the driver would have the foreknowledge to know the neighbour was getting a delivery the next day.

it's the delivery warehouse that holds onto it.

happens to me all the time. either you have a Sub & Save delivery close by, and both arrive early. or both arrive late.

can happen also with nearby packages I assume. especially if delivery persons are low. I have also had a few deliveries from Dragon company that might have something to do with it as well.

I have also heard of people not on prime, getting their packages early because a family member was on prime. so they bunch them together and both arrive early.

its nothing really "funny" just normal and efficient delivery. just because someone living at the same household is on prime, doesn't mean they will split their single item, and deliver everything perfectly separated as expected. they will just bunch it all together and dump it on your doorstep whenever possible.

            @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: 👍
also have had more rare examples, where for whatever reason I assume because new to the job, didn't want to leave the package unattended after the sun went down or couldn't find the address, so they took it back (shows as delivery attempted), but tracking didn't show whatever it shows when package was returned to delivery warehouse ("arrived at local depo" or whatever = same as what it shows just before the delivery person leaves with it on their route). so I just assumed they took it back on their next shift because it was too far to drive.
item arrived a day late, next delivery person just left it as usual.

the weirdest ones were when I chose Same day delivery. sometimes delayed a whole day, sometimes even ordering plenty early the package will arrive at 11:59pm so technically same day but they are really pushing it and the package will be outside until next morning. I assume because of stock issues. or sometimes out of stock, but then cancellation so stock becomes available again just not fast enough.

I'm not a big shopper on amazon compared to most, but I notice these things.

Driver wouldn't know what tomorrows deliveries are or even if they'll get the same route.

Plus to do that, they would have to mark it as delivered, which the OP didn't say happened.

Yes, the Amazon warehouse documentary shows that every package is tracked. Amazon can tell when the drivers are being lazy.

Amazon should learn what "next day" means.

      • (eyes rolling) I know, I've been annoyed too when my $2 Prime order with free postage didn't arrive the next day.

Probably they are covered legally if it is not literally next day. (IDK, T&Cs might have a 90% next day delivery goal due to unforeseen circumstances, etc).
I am still surprised when the DO deliver a random tech gizmo the next day. Logistical miracle.

Most of my deliveries come from dudes in normal looking cars. I don't see the truck unless I'm ordering something huge like a dishwasher.

  • I don't have a problem with timeline, I know my timeline for where I am (regional VIC, 3820) that it will be within 2 days providing I order before the 2pm cut off (or there abouts).

I've found they have switched from Toll to CODEX for deliveries to me. I used to be able to also order larger items and get heavier items, now I cannot. Unless its small like cables or a electronic device, I cannot get it. I ordered some mechanic's hand wash and couldn't get it delivered to me, but I could get it delivered to my sister in 3810 (only 30 minutes away and more metro).

When it was Toll, I could get everything and it could be heavy. Like boxes of nappies, I coiuld get, now I cannot.

Unlikely. You probably ordered the product borderline with the next day delivery.

    Amazon Prime delivery funny buggers?

On the other hand, if you want items to come one by one, are you prepared for your Prime subscription to increase next year? And do you care about the future of the next generation? Just saying.

Their whole system is geared towards sub same day once it hits the delivery station.
If there's low volume to your area it'll be pushed and grouped.

it may depend on the size of your delivery too?
i sometimes deliver for flex and they gave me a trolley with maybe about 80+ items but for various reasons I can only bring <80 items with me -> i have a mid-sized SUV

it may depend on the car size too.
if the delivery guy is on a small car, higher chance that he won't pick up all the package to be delivered on that day.
