Lenovo Legion Go S AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (1TB) $1279 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

60

First time it's gone on sale as far as I know, it's generally competing with the ROG Ally X as they both have the Z1 Extreme chip. It comes with 32GB of RAM.

Previous priced at around $1600.

0 reason to get this over steamdeck unless you really want the smaller form factor, cant believe they are still charging so much for essentially a 2.5 year old chip thats not that much better than the steamdeck chip

It’s far better than the Steam deck chip, which is essentially a 3-4 year old chip with half as many cores and a very old CPU design.

Valve has done a great job, but there’s a reason they only use 1280x800 screens.

      • No its not, at low power steamdeck surpasses it, its barely any better

Why lie? I dont understand. Far better my ass

    • Im in the market for a handheld. Was tossing between this and the steam deck oled. Cant make up my mind

      • If you value Xbox game pass, it's easier to run SteamOS on this, giving you a dual boot Windows+SteamOS system that can do everything, than it is to run game pass games on a Steam Deck. The battery life on these is not brilliant though, so it also depends whether you're going to be plugged in most of the time…

      • Good dilemma to have. I've owned:

        Steamdeck LCD
        Steamdeck OLED
        Rog Ally Z1e
        Legion Go Z1e

The one that I've kept is Rog Ally Z1e. Is it the one id recommend? It really depends..

It all depends on what your use-situstion is. Each have pros and cons that one needs to balance.

I prefer the bigger screen on the Legion Go Z1e, but yeah the Rog Ally and SD feels "nicer" and more solid.

          • @congo: I had to go with the LGo solely for screen size. I'll be upgrading to the LGo 2 shortly because the resolution on the 1st gen is serious overkill.

      • We're on the cusp of new processors starting to roll out in these devices, probably best to hold for them or wait for further discounts on the outgoing devices.

        • Funny story: It's 12 months and 1 week since I last had this exact same conversation with someone who assured me new processors with new architecture were "literally around the corner".

The Z2 is an incremental upgrade from the Z1, plus the new LGo 2 & Ally Xbox are only just shipping now.
It'll be at least 12 months before we see new devices with all-new processors, but most likely 24 months minimum.

    • this much better than steamdeck chip

I have owned the z2 version of this for a couple of months now and absolutely love it. It's been my preferred way to play Silksong, even over my main rig as it's just so comfortable to use. That 8 inch display is so much more useable than the smaller 7 inch ones on the ally and SD. With the TDP set to 10w it plays Silksong at a locked 120fps and for over 4 hours on battery.
A lot of people expect these consoles to replace their main gaming pc, but the way I see it they are more designed for 2D and indie games, and as a way to revisit slightly older games in the backlog like Bioshock and Dishonored. The value proposition is great for that kind of gaming (especially when the Z2 was selling for $750 a few months ago)
