That's how they get you my bro. Just treat like it like it's a $25 wifi usb, which makes it a bad deal for an AC1200

With all due respect I'd be shocked beyond belief if this was faster than wifi in any modern laptop. Specs say 1167mbps. This might be fine for a desktop PC that needs wifi but isn't too worried about the speed of the connection, but if you're upgrading to 1000/100 or similar internet speeds you're going to want something else with wifi6 (and a router to match).

Amazon AU has it for $21 delivered, which is $4 cheaper than the $9+$16 PLE deal.

  • Enjoy 802.11ac Wi-Fi speeds

After hours of reading and YouTube following 'advanced setting' changes, I finally have a link speed of

    Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 243/243 (Mbps)

It is by far the slowest wifi device in the house (old Optiplex PC). Even using my phone or laptop in the same space as this PC they connect with a much faster link speed.

    • I found these mini wifi adapters overheat easily, which tanks the performance. They don't have a heatsink and use the USB port itself for cooling. Try pulling the device out slightly and putting a large bulldog clip over the exposed USB plug. You might need a short USB extension cable to be able to do that. I found it worked a lot better with the bulldog-heatsink.
