For an additional 50$, you can get a 3-band wifi7 router from the same brand, which should be a more future-proof option?

There is less certainty that the Wi-Fi 7 Flint 3 will fully support OpenWRT.

For me, full OpenWRT support is more important than Wi-Fi 7 support, so I went for this model.

      YMMV.

Very Good Router. Bettern than other brands which are more than twice the price. Also if you don't need Wifi 7, this is better than Flint 3 for Wifi 6

I share your opinion on this router. Updated from Asus RT-AC88U. Very happy with the unit and was a lot cheaper than the replacement Asus I was looking at.

This router fixed all my internet issues, I love it :)

flint2 is really good. I replaced the unstable TP-Link with this one month ago and haven't got any issue.

I was going to wait for a better deal, but I pulled the trigger on this yesterday because my 5-year-old Telstra gateway is getting worse every week.

  • Got it for $171.12 last deal
    Great router

    • Any idea if it’ll go back to this price??

Ofc it will. Don't rush into this.

  • Great router, upgraded from RT-AC68u not too long ago, much much better signal and performance.

Can someone point me to why OpenWRT is good? Been out of the hardware game a while. Have this router but just running it stock firmware and get dropouts a few times a day

    • Have you changed the region from advanced settings => LuCl, really important as i fixed the dropouts

      • I have not. I'll look into that. Thanks!

      • I just did this.

Have been getting some packet loss during rocket league, hope this helps, thanks!

    • Could it be interference from nearby. Have you checked the channels you are using, a lot of phone apps that can do this for you.

      why OpenWRT is good

For normal users, the standard features include OpenVPN and Wireguard. Other features are MAC spoofing, ad guards, proxies, etc. Advanced features include command line level of control

  • Got it for 161, very good and stable router use 4.7.7 fw

    • Are there specific issues or is that the latest firmware?

  • This or tplink? 249, you can buy a good tpl
    ink wifi6

    • Which one? It would want to be 25% better since it costs 25% more.

Bought this last time. Amazing router for the price. I haven't even put it to good use yet and it's much better than anything else i've used (nighthawk etc)

  • My ONT is located in my garage in an access panel, along with the patch panel & CCTV connections - is there anyway to use this as the main router (handling DHCP & NAT) while using a switch in the garage?

Currently I have a Ubiquiti ER-X which handles routing & VLAN tagging, with an Asus Router setup in AP mode connected to it in our living room, going through the patch panel for the connection.

I ask ChatGPT and it said something about buying a smart switch and setting up VLANs to use the single cable as two.

Would love to be able to do this so if I bought the Glint I could actually use the VPN and extra features rather than just AP mode.

The reason I don’t just connect the wireless router at in the garage is because it’s not very central & there’s little room in the access panel.
