I believe these are leftover stock from last year's Black Friday Bundle.

  • Can these models be hacked?

    • They can be modded but the process is quite involved. Need to microsolder and expose a trace by wearing down pcb.

      • Or a mig switch card is another option

        • -3

That just lets you pirate games, we’re talking about “hacking” a Switch, or installing custom firmware and allowing our device to run unsigned programs, to make it clearer, which a mig switch card cannot allow you to do.

There is an aussie guy in Etsy that mods them. The guy has amazing reviews.

got MK8 bundle from $389 eBay Gamesmen deal in May.

    best decision ever!

downvote all you like, but switch 2 is out, and it's not OLED. a lot of good, well reviewed switch OLED accessories are half price, and there were a lot of good game deals recently

all this makes for a good Switch OLED experience

just because other people had this experience couple years ago, doesn't invalidate the same experience right now - just because a slightly faster console is released for twice the price which needs a lot more $$ to play games on it..

I can afford Switch 2 but do I need it? no, I prefer switch OLED and this is a good price for it.

it plays my favourite titles without hiccups what more would I want. still haven't finished a lot of great switch 1 games.. why would I want to spend $$$ to play them on a newer hardware

I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan, and own a Switch, but… the Switch is 8 years old, underpowered at launch, with mostly Wii U games, Switch OLED is 4 years old, the Switch 2's been out for months, and 400 bucks is STILL a bargain for the Switch 1 OLED?

We really got rorted by Nintendo last gen, damn.

    • -6

Or, raw power isn't the most important aspect of gaming.. .great games are and Nintendo strikes a chord for many gamers?

If Nintendo were rorting customers they would simply not buy the Switch, last time I checked they had sold a few units.

      • +10

Raw power isn't the most important aspect, you're right. That's why the switch is so popular.

But let's not act like the comment you're replying to isn't wrong.

There is no way in hell 399 is a justifiable price for this obsolete hardware, especially when its direct replacement has been out.

This should really be in the bargain bin for under 250. But Nintendo doesn't really do that.

        • -4

"There is no way in hell 399 is a justifiable price for this obsolete hardware" - what are you talking about? 399 is justifiable if people are still paying it.

The price will drop like a stone if it is overpriced. Nintendo Switch is not an essential item. If its overpriced it will not sell.

And Nintendo don't do big promos, that's their business model. It sucks because no bargains, it's great because it holds it value when you resell it.

          • +3

@mooney: "And Nintendo don't do big promos, that's their business model. It sucks because no bargains, it's great because it holds it value when you resell it."

Isn't that (respectfully) an example of the "greater fool theory" in action?

            • @qaz182: What are you talking about? It’s in no way analogous. No one is saying buying Nintendo hardware is a profit generator. Only that it doesn’t depreciate in value at the same rate as the competition. It’s not a hard concept.

Literally no one is forced to buy Nintendo products. If Nintendo switch 2 cost $2k I’m sure no one would buy it. They price their goods at what they believe is a price that people will pay. If they get it wrong it won’t sell. If they get it right they make lots of money.

You can downvote this argument all you like but it’s basic supply and demand and I can’t help it if you don’t like it.

              • +1

@mooney: By the way. I wish Nintendo was cheaper. I know that there’s no point in holding off for a great deal. If Switch 2 sells well it’s not going to drop in price. The game prices are horrible also.

My feelings are irrelevant. I’ll end up either having to pony up the money or spend it elsewhere. Yay capitalism.

I bought a second Switch 2 on Marketplace a week or so back to mess around with the MiG Switch, all in box with the wrapping and stuff still, perfect condition, they wanted 500 bucks. Threw in a nice little case too. I think the Switch 2 is well worth 500, there's a good argument for the full 700, but the Switch 1, regardless of revision, shouldn't be more than like 200 max. I've been picking up cheap deals on Marketplace a lot lately, I've now got 4 Lites and an OLED in a drawer, I've literally made money on buying them (all the Lites were in bundles with a few games, which were traded for overall profit). Like, sorry to Broden it, I'm not trying to brag (though I am very happy with my scores), I'm just stating the reality, Switch 1 is cheap as chips on the preowned market at the moment, as it should be, and you'd be a goose to spend 400 on this one new, when you could get a pre-owned (which, I'm not usually advocating for pre-owned this hard, but when the console is only 2 or 3 months old and still under warranty, it's almost as new) Switch 2 for very little more. And if you wanted it on the cheap, you wouldn't be paying 400 for, as you said, 8 year old gear, in the first place.

Nintendo, if you look at modern games and Switch experience and forget the clunky emulators, holds monopoly on Switch experience. and they are smart. whether you choose Switch 2 or Switch OLED or anything else you can find brand new, you are rorted either way

but at least here you pay a little less than you would. on good sales you could get Switch Lite for around $250 and that is a good deal too.

You guys should all go back in the OzBargain time capsule and look at the clearouts on the 3DS consoles, then go look at the prices selling on eBay and such now, especially for New 3DS XL models, or look up what a PS Vita is selling for these days. Hackable handheld consoles are expensive

A hacked 3DS + a hacked Switch are easily the best way to play every handheld Nintendo game up to now + a lot of earlier Nintendo/SEGA titles. 3DS is necessary for the dual screen games, OLEDs can be modded and are a lot better than the V1/V2 switches, though V1 with a jig is a good option, not worth paying to mod the V2, good if you can do it yourself

Give it 5 years and these OLEDs still won't be selling at the $200 mark you all seem to want even used. This is a good buy IF you want to mod and plan to use it into the future. It's not a great buy if you want to use it as a legit Switch though

    • Good comment but what about modern handhelds such as the Ayn Thor and the Ayaneo Pocket DS (dual screen, higher end snapdragon processors that are more powerful than the switch, handheld form factor)?

      • +1

Switch emulation is still pretty average across the board.

        • +1

I don't have experience with this (Android emulation)

When I played Zelda: Breath of the Wild on CEMU (on PC) I remember it was a little rough at the time on my old PC (despite it being a good gamer PC at the time).

But playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, ran flawlessly on then Yuzu (and required minimal tinkering vs BOTW)

So i'm pretty confident a good game PC can handle all Switch now (more expensive than buying a Switch of course, but if you already have a solid PC)

          • @qaz182: Handling one game doesn’t mean handling all games. Likely the more popular something is the higher chance it is supported but not always. Emulation is fickle and switch emulation is a still a work in progress

      • +1

Just looked the Pocket up, it looks nice but 3x the price of a New 3DS XL and running Android and 3DS emulation is iffy. I tried to play New Super Mario Bros 1&2 on Batocera with a 4060 and that couldn't run smoothly, Switch emulation with Ryujinx is pretty good overall - until you have to debug random shader caches crashing the game lol, not sure what Switch emulation on Android is like though…

Emulation won't compare to playing on the original hardware in terms of smoothness and simplicity though (at least for Nintendo), and for older GBC/GBA era games they're very easy get up and running on both consoles

    • The OLED is hackable? Isn't it a recent version of the Switch?

      • Yep, all Switch 1's are these days. The original V1's (well most of them) can be done with the jig in the joycon slot, the V2/OLED/Lite need a modchip soldered in. The chips themselves are cheap if you have the micro soldering skills else yeah, just gotta pay for the labour
