Spinifex Mawson Eclipse 10-Person Tent $399 (RRP $1,199) + $69.99 Shipping (Free C&C) @ Anaconda

430

Looks like a good price and well reviewed overall online. Not completely convinced that it ever sells at RRP but either way it's a bargain at this price.
Might even be able to get another $20 off from this deal.

Same online catalogue has the Dune 50l camping fridge freezer for $299 which is a pretty decent price.

Probably an overkill, I don’t even have 10 friends.

"Hello, my friend, we meet again
It's been a while, where should we begin?
        Feels like forever"

        • Just short.of 7 friends

    • Buy one and offer a free Ozbargain meetup in it, you'll be overrun.

      • Nah, JV might want to step in

realistically a 5-6 person tent unless you like to get super comfy…

      • +1

Yeah, I have a 2 adults/2 kids family, and bought the 6p tent. Should have gone bigger, because the bags and all that take up 2-3 people

        • +1

Yeah I have a 8P of the same, 2 adults 2 kids family, little space left for the bags etc. after 2 Queen Mattress. Overall good product for the price.

        • Bought a quest air 12 for family of 4. Camping in luxury, we put up an inflatable couch in one of the "rooms"

        • +1

We had the same issue, so we got a queen bed stretcher to get the bed off the ground, then we could put the bags under the bed.

      • You obviously havent seen my neighbours. ,they live in a 4 bed room house ( including garage converted to a bed room) and one bath room. I haven't seen the same person twice (except the owner)

i prefer paying for a 5 star hotel with all you can eat breakfast included.

Rule of thumb is to divide no. of person stated by 2.

How does this tent compare to the Coleman Northstar 10p?

    https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/tents/family-t…

    • I checked them both when I bought this:
      https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/tents/family-t…

As I needed just for 2A, 2 kids, this looked like value for money, 2 years past, don't regret, nice sturdy tent, easy to setup. If you have a store nearby you can go check, they usually have them both in display.

    • I have the Coleman and it's a bit of work to put up, but decent quality. Based on the pictures, this one has a larger awning, more plastic clips and stuff to make it easier to set up, but they may degrade over time, and it seems to be more translucent. Doesn't look like the bag has wheels (trust me, this thing is heavy, and the wheels on my Coleman are a godsend).

      • +2

Yeah the bag is shit, I bought an extra bag, though the 8P is 20kg compared to 10P at about 32.

        • Which bag did you buy and does it have wheels?

          • +2

@Mazozb: Mine like I said is just 20kg, so I got this with some other stuff from Kings:

            https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/kings-oversized-swag-bag-fi…

I pack the tent, camp chair and sleeping bags all in this and throw it on the roof.

If you're after a wheeled one, can get these then:

    • coleman is made of better materials, more featured and a different layout really. Worth the price difference if you're a regular camper, if you're only a one time a year or less fair weather camper I'd go the spinifex.

I'm pretty skeptical of needing more than a 6P though, maybe 8P tents at a stretch for most families. They're heavy, pretty unwieldy and more annoying to setup. You can get bunk stretchers for the bigger kids which will help with room in these tents and once the kids get big enough you can spin them out to their own swags/3-4p tent.

    • mate has this and hates putting it up. KISS, get a pop up ish like this one.

  • I traded in my condo for this… Best investment ever!! :) 😄

40,000 of these will solve Straya's housing crisis for a year.

    • I don't think we have enough tradesmen to build them. Maybe the pollies will help.

  • Was considering it until I saw 32kg for the tent weight… waaaaay too heavy to lug around damn kudos to those that do it

    • Probably not ideal for bikepacking…

    • Not sure what you were expecting from a tent this size?

      • Ours is 18kg so yeah you lose material for lightness

  • Pretty good tent. Have been using for 4+ years. Still going strong.

Beware, if you buy a tent too large, instead of building more tents, the Government will tax you on the extra sleeping spaces in your tent.

  • what mattress is everyone using?

    • +1

After trying the air mattresses whole family sleeps well in this:

      https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/adventure-kings-self-inflat…

    • +1

self inflating mats are the play, exped or zempire monstabeds if you can afford…

      • was looking at the Zempire monstamat but reading some average reviews on durability…

    • Get stretchers and a self inflating mattress like blackwolf or zempire. Stretchers lift you of the ground adding valuable space, reduces cold transfer from the ground and makes it easier to get in and out. A self inflating mattress on top provides another thermal barrier and and even higher level of comfort.

  • How does this compare to the Oztrail Genesis II 9 Person Tent currently going for $239? Really considering getting the Oztrail.

    • nah, this one is better and bigger high ceilings and 3 rooms instead of 2.

  • This boy is larger than a truck

  • Finally. Affordable housing.

  • i have the oztrail blackout version that is similiar to this. this is great, but it is heavy af. a real pain if you are trying to put on your roof for transport. real easy to put up and take down.
splits into 3 rooms. we use the middle as the foyer, lol. that is where we keep the table, food, cooler, etc…
i don't know why it is 10 person, each room can fit 4 or more if you wanted too. i have a queen inflatable bed, and it fits inside the room. we put 2 cots in the other room with 2 padded mats in between the 2 cots. fits fine.

  • I'm 75kg, height is 6.1, got 5 others with around same weight as myself, but their average height comes to ~5.8

With 6 of us in, this tent feels overcrowded already, not sure how someone would fit 10. May be yes with kids

the stated capacity is pretty much always having people shoulder to shoulder on the ground with no consideration for storage or walking space. Divide it by 2ish for a comfortable amount.
