Trustworthy Volkswagen Mechanic Sydney

Hey guys so my Golf MK7 TSI has broken down and is sitting on the side of the road somewhere.

I'll need to get the car towed to a mechanic and looking for someone trustworthy who is good with VW's who won't just take it as a blank cheque. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions, looking for something around Parramatta and I get 25km towing from NRMA.

Thanks

  • Witness at WM Euro Automotive in Liverpool is the go-to. Offers options of brand new or used refurbished parts, and reasonable labour. You can text him some pics and start a conversation for estimated diagnosis and costs before you even pop in.

Worth noting if you need an ECU reprogrammed, he has to take it to VW Liverpool to do it themselves. Everything else he can pretty much sort out.

  • You bought a VW, you knowing let the mechanics take it as a blank cheque :P

    Engine or DSG issue?

    • Engine, car was going then suddenly car started shaking and engine light started flashing. I scanned it quickly and saw misfires on all cylinders.

Possible fuelling issue (HPFP failure?) if all 4 misfired at the same time or something as simple as a vacuum leak or dodgy MAF

        • Thanks for the advice, just wondering is it safe to run the engine long enough to do a full obd11 scan? I ran it only long enough to see all the misfire codes then turned the car off as I didn't want to mess it up by constantly running it. Might go check the car out later to see if there is any easy to spot things before it gets towed on Monday.

@uAware: You don't need to run the engine to scan. The codes that caused the event will most likely be stored. If not, and you do need to run the engine for a minute or so, it will be fine.

            • @MS Paint: FYI i went back to the car and scanned it and couldn't see any other codes apart from all the cylinders misfiring. NRMA guy didn't see anything either, he pretty much just did the same thing and scanned it on his tablet and said the same thing. When I turned it on i could smell some petrol so think the fuel pump is working but something is stopping it igniting. Anyway with a shop at the moment so will be interesting to see what it is.

@MS Paint: So coil pack had snapped, was a cheap fix luckily.

              • @uAware: Great result. I would have thought the OBD11 would have highlighted the specific cylinder that had the misfire. Would have been a super quick fix if it did.

I'd replace the other 3 coil packs. They are probably all on their way out now.

  • Need to know nature of problem. Sure it’s not a dead battery or blown alternator?

  • Sent you a pm. My mums Passat started shaking and engine light came on. Turned out it was a coil that needed replacing? Anyhow my mechanic is honest and works on VW’s. Give him a call and have a chat.

Finally got rid of my Polo as it succumb to the totally predictable ECU problem. Get rid of your VW and get a Toyota.

@SYLTB is spinning in his grave at that last line

  • For a Golf Mk7 1.4 TSI with an ignition coil issue, you will likely see OBD codes in the P0300-P0308 range for cylinder misfires or P0350-P0362 for ignition coil circuit malfunctions. A P0300 code specifically indicates a random or multiple cylinder misfire. You will need to read the specific code from the vehicle's OBD2 scanner to identify which cylinder is affected.

    • OP said all?

      • FYI one of the coil packs snapped, they just replaced it and it's fine now.
