Is there anything they don't release a LEGO version of…

  • -7

    Thanks, saved $79.

    • +6

Now a Lego Dreamcast on the other hand…

      • +4

Would you Settle on a Sega genesis controller?

        • +4

Need a sega cd and 32x power of tower

      • Would send me broke

      • Lego Sega Saturn would be super

        • +2

If they do, they better have it come with a companion ‘ Nights into Dreams ‘ accessory. Similar to how the Polaroid model comes with companion Polaroid print accessories.

      • Now!! That would be amazing we did get Genesis/Mega Drive controller

  • -8

Just get a Miyoo Mini. It looks the part, it's cheaper and actually plays games.

    • +14

Kinda missing the whole point of a Lego set. It's about the build process and putting it on display, which you naturally wouldn't have either with a Miyoo/Anbernic.

      • +6

Miyo: We install and reinstall different firmwares, customise boot screen and layout. Find the games, create own selection of games, and play them. Get $2 stand from ali and display it.

        • +7

I'm familiar with those devices, I have an RG35XXSP which I play pretty often, but it's apples to oranges here.

          • @mangobango: I got one of those mid last year, but didn't end up using it much (funnily enough Carmen San Diego was one of my most played games on it lol).

I'm interested in the Lego Game Boy - got the Lego Nintendo, but wasn't keen on the Lego Atari. The novelty factor of the game boy appeals to me.

      • +1

Would be better if it was built from circuit boards and tear apart style build

      • +1

I believe what he/she's trying to say is it's crazy expensive for what it is, which applies to Lego in general.

  • -1

They should make the word "Nintendo" out of pixel sized Lego blocks as extra challenge.

  • -8

I'm not gonna have my usual rant about overpriced Lego and weird adults who buy it today,

What I will say, is I feel like there's a lot less fun and wonder in building something with dedicated special pieces made just for the kit. If following the instructions didn't erode any imagination enough, having brand new pieces just for [insert kit here] definitely does. I remember building shit as close as I could with the pieces I had and it was a lot more fun than role playing furniture assembly. But then again, I guess these aren't really made for kids so fun doesn't much come into the equation.

    • +11

As someone who collects Lego and builds my own shit too, I tend to agree.

It’s become a thing people either hoard, or best case scenario actually build and display. Nothing wrong with that. But it’s a world apart from what Lego used to be in our childhoods.

Take this set. Sure it’s cool. But it’s just some shit you put on display. If you made it yourself from scratch, it would be amazing. But this is just a pre made set you shove on a shelf.

Ultimately if it brings people joy, who cares (besides the consumerism and more plastic).

I will chime in as a filthy casual who only buys the botanicals lol (but only the ones I like). I liked lego a "normal" amount as a kid, but never had too many, so I was limited in what I could make, but that was ok, I had other toys I was into as well.

As an adult, I never felt compelled to buy any Lego until the botanicals came out. Of course I've always like the blocky "look" of something built with lego, but I was never really super passionate about it - certainly not enough for me to go buy a bunch of loose lego (lego classic?). But the problem I had as a kid persists - I lack the resources, the obscure pieces that one might need/want to perfect their creation. And frankly, I lack the creativity and time as well.

So yes, these sets are for the filthy casuals like myself who like the aesthetic and want their hands held. It's made a shittonne of money for Lego. I display mine and they collect a lot of dust lol. The reason I came into this thread was I thought this gameboy set was ridiculous; it basically looks like the real thing and is a total cash grab.

      • I want to hear more honest takes like this,!

        • thank you :)

      • total cash grab.

Name one product that isn’t a total cash grab.

      • +2

it basically looks like the real thing

        Is this not the idea?

  • -7

I bought an R36S that actually works and lets you play the games for cheaper than this lol

    • +1

I bought one too and know exactly what you mean. These products are from different dimensions in the sight of buyers. Sometimes simplicity sell more like Apple products.

  • The nostalgia! Thanks, OP. It would be such a nice bonus if that screen was backlit.

    • +3

Haha the OG wasn’t so why would this be? You could always customise it.

      • +1

Yeah the eye ruining screen is historically correct

  • +2

Easily an impulse buy if it were under $50

I wonder if BIG W would have a better price

  • Can it work on other gameboy cartridges?

    • No.

  • +1

Anyone modded this using a Pi to have it functioning?

    • Did that with the mini arcade unit to run Doom and retro arch

I bet this is just as easy

    • +1

Modded using actual Game Boy Board

      • Dude that’s sick! Even better than a Pi.

  • +1

Just need to cancel my lego.com order now

  • +3

Nothing but milking the Millennials nostalgic.

  • +2

1 order cancelled by Kmart already.

  • +4

Was almost tempted to buy this…then I realised I still have my original Gameboy :0

  • Cragieburn in Victoria has these in stock, however they are in the loading bay and have not been processed. They are cancelling all click and collect orders until they are on the shelves. I just went down to check why my order was cancelled. ETA was 1-3 days. I have 3 stores close by so I'm doing the rounds.

    • +2

It's probably because it's supposed to be released on the 1st of October, not before and someone didn't pay attention at work… Too busy on OzBargain. 😜

    • I was at my local store in NSW and after asking at the support desk about stock they actually suggested I order it online with local pick-up because they were also in the loading bay still lol.

Order hasn't been cancelled yet… but we'll see I guess

  • +1

    Cheers just picked up 2.
I went down to my local and the had a heap on a cage and asked for 2. $20 cheaper than Lego store and 4 days earlier.

  • I wonder how long till someone replaces with an real screen and playable like they did with the NES.

  • -1

Still got the original game boy so didn’t get this set…😅

  • -1

Soon there'll be a LEGO x Hitachi Magic Wand. Fun for the whole family! Well, perhaps more for mum and daughter…

    • +4

      username checks out

  • Tried to be cheap and find it on aliexpress but there wasn’t any cheap knock off versions 😅

    • This just got released so give it a bit of time before they start popping up.

  • +4

3 attempts at ordering cancelled. Will try delivery.
The most annoying part were the emails saying that I requested cancellation.

  • Just picked up from Kmart Chaddy! Great deal, glad I didn't pre-order with Lego.

  • +1

Successfully click and collected QLD - Woodridge store!

  • Kmart cancelled my order 😐

  • Successfully click'n' collected in NSW, thanks OP.

  • Also cancelled for click and collect.

  • Success at click and collect in Victoria

  • Cancelled LEGO order and ordered delivery, cheers!

  • +1

Thanks, I cancelled my Lego order this morning and bought two of these this morning at the local Kmart. They weren't on display so you'd never know but they got them from out the back. I can't beleive it's out in the wild before I recieved my pre-orders, and for cheaper!!!!

  • +1

Not knocking Lego but if you’re into the original Game Boy you might want to try refurbishing one with a modern screen and, optionally, a new case. You can find a second hand unit and refurb kits online. Very fun project.

  • +2

Picked it up at my local kmart, they didn't have it on the shelves, asked customer service and it was out back.

Build the set tonight, was actually a really fun set to build.

  • My first click and collect order from Saturday got cancelled. I put another one through last night and picked up today :)

  • mine was accepted, delivery tomorrow. sending store: Kmart Rowville - VIC

    • Same store is where mine is being delivered from, also ordered it Saturday…. it was finally past the "preparing to ship" phase as of 5pm yesterday.
And officially sent at lunch time today, should get it tomorrow (logically) or Friday. However I'm confused, there's meant to be a signature for delivery…….. but AUSPOST now say "signature not required, item will be left at the door"

Funny thing coming from Rowville, I was going to chance click and collect, but I read on here and other forums that people click & collected and their k-marts cancelled the order. I figured "delivery" would be a safer bet for the item to be fulfilled without a cancellation (assumed they'd send it "later" so that it arrived on/after the official release date. Should have gone to Knox or Burwood instead.

      • Knox had no stock, so I went to Boronia which had stock.

        • +1

ordered when the deal went up, delivery was yesterday 02/10/2025 Kmart Rowville. Came with a huge Theft Sticker on the front of the box, unable to remove without damaging. Very Poor Kmart for deliveries.

  • -1

We wanted to let you know that due to high demand and processing delays, your order is delayed and may arrive in multiple deliveries. If you have already received some of your items, rest assured we are working hard to get any remaining items to you as quickly as possible. Once the remaining items are packed and ready to ship, you'll receive an email with tracking details and you'll be able to track your order via our order tracking service.
We understand how important it is to receive your order promptly and apologise for any disappointment caused.

Still shows in stock at local kmart and 3- 5 days delivery so what the he'll is this.

    • +1

Just because it's in-stock at your local store doesn't mean that it gets shipped from that store ;)

      • +1

        "3- 5 days delivery"

Ordered it when this deal went up.

  • Received today in pretty poor condition, knew I shouldn't have risked the delivery. Box has crease marks and a little rip, and to top it off they wrote some number on the parcel while the box was in there so you can see the indent of what they wrote.

Gonna go instore and swap it over.

  • This is $74.99 at Costco in-store.

Edit: Sorry, this is Ipswich QLD

  • Why are they cancelling a month later? (I wasn't in a hurry as long as it's coming)
