Pretty great deal I think. Miniscule changes between the newly released fold and the older model. Pixel 9 pro fold 256bg $0 on and $89 Telstra JB hi-fi plan 24 months

I've got the 9 fold, and got it replaced under warranty from Google about a month ago. Still think it's a fantastic phone!!

How it got replaced? Any issues you faced?

I had front screen problems.
Google sent a new one out to me and I then sent mine back
I would stay away to be honest. I got mine replaced twice and the second time they replaced it, they sent a refurbished device. It is underpowered, the software is very underwhelming, the battery life is poor and you have to baby it. The novelty wears off once you realize that its bad at doing normal bar phone things.

@dealsucker: Totally agree, don't get this phone! Got it from the last deal in May 2025, the phone itself has shockingly worse reception in terms of signal strength than Samsung phones, and it's indeed a hand warmer, phone temperature often reaches over 45 degrees Celsius in winter, and the battery drops extremely quickly when the phone is running hot. I have tried all 3 networks, with physical SIM cards and eSIM cards. Sure the AI features and the foldable screen are nice to have, but these are useless when you don't have data or can't make phone calls!

What were some of the issues they had with their 9 fold? Hoping 10 fold with updated hinges will be better

I got one on launch day, it's still running great. No hardware issues at all.

Same here.

mind sharing what they got it replaced for? screen I'm assuming.

had mine replaced for the fingerprint sensor but apart from that it's been great

I had mine replaced under warranty after 10 months. It stopped recognising the sim, when I tried to reboot it, it just didn't turn on again. I still like it but it feels heavy compared to the Samsung folds

I replaced it twice. First time, they sent me a defective, refurbished phone. The microphone didn't work.
The replacement for that was also refurbished but works fantastic.
I had mine replaced twice under warranty, then traded it in. Cool idea but stressful worrying about whether they will honour the warranty each time. Plus the 9 Pro XL has a longer screen, so even with the fold open, the XL is bigger for video playback

Got it replaced as there was pixelation issue on the screen. Then with the second phone the front screen was getting frozen. Got it refunded.

so zero dollars for phone then cancel plan any time? :D

You’d hope the minuscule changes don’t equal the same minuscule reliability…

Roughly $1k for last year fold, not bad.

Is that $89 for first month plus the max repayment fee of 1k?

$89 for first month and then the cancellation fee of $958.33 ($1000/24*23). So total cost $1,047.33

Where are you getting the $1000 from?
I think the 'Bonus Voucher' wording is confusing me, but I figured the bonus voucher was issued by JB to 'make up the difference' from the normal $1000 GC and the retail price of the phone ($2297)?

@CharcoaI: Thats the cancellation fee you will see in the CIS of the Contract with Telstra when you sign up. It was $800 before, now increased to $1,000.

Voucher Repayment Fee
If you received a JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile
Service (the Base Voucher Repayment Fee). From July 24, 2025, if you also received a JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher you received for the
cancelled Mobile Service (the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee)The Base Voucher Repayment Fee and the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee (as applicable) is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the Base Voucher and Bonus Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your Voucher Term.
For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
(a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
(b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
(c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.
So $1000 is the base voucher, but don't JB generate a 'Bonus Voucher' to make up for the difference in the cost of the phone?
Which, judging by the CIS above, will now also need to be paid back?

@CharcoaI: Mate their terms have always been like this. But when you sign up you will see the $1,000 Maximum Cancellations Fee in tge CIS of the Contract tgat you will get. This has been discussed a lot in past.

@OZBsince2018: I know, I've taken advantage a few times in the past - but previously their CIS has shown a table with that maximum repayable amount. I couldn't find that on the new CIS.
Not saying you're wrong or anything, but it just looks like things have been updated - and I saw some discussion in a JB iPhone posting a few days ago saying the loophole was closed too.

@CharcoaI: Nevermind, found the specific Terms page still stating $1000 here:
https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

@OZBsince2018: For reference, I was originally looking at:
https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/consume…

@CharcoaI: Yea spot on. Maximum voucher repayment is $1000 pro rata over 24 months. As per CIS. When you sign up that counts as 1 month. So 23 months ($1000/24*23) is the cancellation fee plus the initial $89 as stated above.

Read my comment above.

You must be new here

Cue someone asking if you can return the phone🤣

I'm gonna get negged but even if you don't cancel I think it's not terrible. For an extra $25 a month over two years when compared to buying boost for $500 to $550 roughly for 24 months you get 10 times the data per month. Yes, cancel to get the phone cheap but if so use a lot of data or like to have a lot data I don't see how this is terrible.

how much data boost gives in $500 sim?

That was for two years and if sim hoping. Boost are 300 gig per year. This is 300 gig per month.

I love that you just ignored the fact you also get a decent phone plan for 2 years with it…

Yeah, I don't get people that neg these deals when it comes to the cost of the plan vs the 12 month plans with limited data. I get it every 2 years to get a new phone, or when they do the maxed out vouchers to get a fridge or something for home. I use the data as it replaces my home internet. I tether my phone to the TV and my laptop if I want to watch movies or play games. Works perfectly, for $89/month I get my personal phone, home and business internet, a new phone, and I get to write the bulk of it off in tax. It's a no brainer.

Does this read a bit different for terms and conditions. Typically a gift card is given to be put towards the phone but it seems like the terms are that the phone replaces the actual voucher? Anyone notice this?

Until they change their system. I suspect it won't float with the CIS unless they tailor the CIS for every "offer".

It would be surprising if these phones actually survive 24 months

Any idea if these are carrier locked ? (I like to put grapheneos)

They aren’t.

Flagships are never locked.

Other phones aren’t so ugly now after they released that awful new iPhone

Yep, Apple really shat the bed with that one.

Apple fan here! Can confirm, Apple shat the bed. The design and the scratchgate stuff, yeah, bad.

No they didn't? 17 series is selling faster than most recent series. The Air is really popular amongst those that prefer form over function.

Explain why the 17 series is selling so well then and why the Air is the most popular phone amongst those that prefer form over function, nullifying your take of it being ugly?

Hold. Pixel 10 pro fold release next month, most probably we will see some preorder deal soon.

I had a look there weren't many great pre orders deals for this phone, this looks to be the best one by far. Who knows what they'll do for the p10p fold…

True, but P10p fold will be released in less than 2 weeks. if no preorder deal come up, then P9p fold should go down in price further once p10p fold released.

Good reminder, ta!

I would advise everyone to stay away from this phone! Google replaced mine 4 times due to front screen, cameras, bluetooth and wifi issues on all 4 brand new devices (due to faulty motherboard). Still having the same issues on 5th phone which has been received last month. Go buy a fold 7 instead!

Many thanks. Was thinking about switching to pixel. 5 new handsets with issues. How frustrating

Thats astonishing to know. I had this phone for 6 months but never had any issue at all. Just sold it as the battery life wasn't good enough and coupled with very low charging speed made it worse. Other than that phone was good.

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but fyi HN are doing a similar deal that may work out cheaper: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/922477
I ended up getting a 512GB model because in the HN system they appeared as the same price for some reason, so they just gave me the 512

We got quoted etc of $767. We had earlier already paid $89 for 1st month. Any one else has similar experience around etc

Anyone i know with the 9 Fold has had it replaced at least once under warranty. Be interested to see what deals come out once the 10 Fold is out
