Aeroplan Account Requires Verification - Possible Freeze? Any Advice

I recently gained access to an Aeroplan account with about 190,000 points in it. When I tried to use the points to book a flight, I got this error message:

"We're sorry, we're not able to process your request at this time. An additional verification is required to your Aeroplan account. Please contact us at 1-800-361-5373 for assistance."

I’m now concerned the account may have been flagged or frozen. I don’t have the original account registration info (like email or phone number - i have their name, DOB and address on the account), so I’m unsure what kind of verification Aeroplan will ask for, or if there’s any way to resolve this without access to that info.

Has anyone experienced this message before? Is it possible to recover access or is the account likely locked permanently?

Appreciate any advice — especially from anyone who’s dealt with Aeroplan support in a similar situation

They detected the change of IP from access point, it's gone, unless you can provide the info they want …

The risks of buying/trading others accounts :/ Consider the $$ lost a learning experience ;)

      • Yeah, bare minimum should have been to access the account from a Canadian VPN server :/

~$350 for the lesson is cheaper than an influencer crypto rug pull lesson :P

Ah, might be missing a 0 on that lesson cost

          • @SBOB: Damn, math fail!

Wonder why nobody asks whether it's a good idea to buy these things beforehand, rather than after things have gone wrong!

@7ekn00: They already know, they just think it won't happen to them.

Only seems to be about a 20% discount off buying them directly (which comes around pretty regularly) so bit confused why someone would risk it.

  • Aeroplan allows family sharing of points. We have set this up and also had to verify the account. They asked for a selfie of the person holding their id. It was instantly approved. Their website doesn't explain this very well but if that is what you are trying to do and you are legitimate, you should be able to do so.

  • thank you for taking the time to read the post and respond.
