I wonder if the original full sugar Pepsi-Cola is the old stock 'sugar only' version - OR - the now changed reduced sugar and added artificial sweeteners version? Unfortunately, PepsiCo Australia quietly changed the Aussie full sugar formula in Australia (June 2025) - reducing sugar and adding artificial sweeteners.

      Wow! Had no idea!

      • Yep. Artificial sweeteners original Pepsi is here! https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/drink/major-change-ma…

How dare they secretly kerb the #1 global killer

@King Steuart: I truly don’t know why they would ruin their full sugar signature product by reducing its sugar and adding artificial sweeteners. So, now, what’s the point choosing original Pepsi from Pepsi Max now?! It’s just completely ridiculous and has destroyed their original full sugar product.

@msjb: Because the sales of their full sugar Pepsi are abysmal so they’re trying anything they can

@get-innocuous: They should just prioritise selling Pepsi Max instead of changing Pepsi itself, people only seem to get Pepsi when Coke isn't available.

@msjb: Honestly, I prefer the taste of Pepsi Max over the normal Pepsi nowadays.

            • @msjb: Must be enough profit in it to be worth it, or otherwise they are trying to pull a Coka Cola Classic marketing blunder / winfall

    • Wacko Jacko will be turning in his grave.

Not bad for a look every now and then, you can find some interesting stuff. Some good, some not always.

    • They do delivery too; gotta be something you love being discontinued though as there is a shipping fee.

When Chilli and Lime Doritos XXL were being discontinued I ordered as many as they had lol

  • Would be awesome if it's the old recipe. Old stock maybe. The new recipe is average

  • They sell expired drinks all the time, usually not an issue but once I got coke that was not sweet.

Sugar free soft drinks don't last very long after the expiry date. The aspartame breaks down and the drink loses its original Flavour. Now I guess with Pepsi's recipe change, even the 'sugar' varieties will be affected.

All the PepsiCo drinks have been ruined.

Mountain Dew was one of my favourite drinks but the new formula tastes watered down, and even the carbonation level is less. It’s like drinking a flat soft drink.

Solo and Sunkist are the same. Why reduce the sugar content slightly and introduce artificial sweeteners into the mix? It tastes worse than Sprite and Coke Zero Sugar. Even they’re more flavoursome.

QUOTE - Mountain Dew was one of my favourite drinks but the new formula tastes watered down, and even the carbonation level is less. It’s like drinking a flat soft drink.

New Mountain Dew (Cough) full sugar (cough) now also used sweeteners 950,955 like the new formulation full sugar pepsi, it has increased the "Health" rating to both to 1.5 stars, from 0.5, but both and especially the Pepsi are undrinkable now, in my opinion…

It's sneaky. At least when Sprite and Fanta reduced its sugar contents, it was on the label when they first made the change. 30% less sugar, same great taste or whatever the percentage was. It's not on the labels now, but they didn't hide the fact they changed it.

Whereas all the PepsiCo drinks are now undrinkable to me. It's worse than drinking a diet or zero sugar drink. And, they made the change hoping what… that no one would notice?

Are they just going to gradually up the artificial sweetener and eventually remove sugar to get around a possible future sugar tax on soft drinks? I'm just wondering why they hell they'd do this. Taste a bottle of Mountain Dew (old formula) with an expiry date of November, as opposed to one that expires in January (new formula), and tell me that you can't taste the difference. Or notice that the newer one has no fizz.

What's the world coming to… Tony the tiger (Frosties) gets cancelled, now Soft Drinks are becoming unpalatable. Can't we just enjoy unhealthy food and drinks in moderation instead of changing or substituting them for tasteless alternatives?

Cant wait till find a way to power cars with soft drinks cheaper to run

  • In the 2nd July 2025 news.com.au article, when the Journalist reached out to PepsiCo Australia spokesperson said this: “We have reduced the sugar content in Pepsi and Mountain Dew in response to consumers who tell us they are looking for products that contain less sugar”. “The new formulas contain low-calorie sweeteners and a lower sugar content. We’ve also undertaken extensive sensory research to ensure we’re still delivering the same great taste consumers know and love.” I'll rephrase what they said: "We wanted Coca-Cola full sugar original formula to get ALL our sales now."
