Separation between Gas Pipeline and Electrical Meter/Fuse Box

Hi all, do you know what is the legal requirement between the electrical meter/fuse box and the main gas pipeline in SA?

I had a underground gas leak before so the plumber connected a new pipeline from the gas meter box to the house. The pipe is about 50 cm below the electrical meterbox and connect with the old gas pipe (running vertical up and about 100 cm from the meter box). The gas meter box is outside of the house and about 20m from the electrical meterbox.

Is that legally correct for SA? I had the COC issued by the plumber after the work.

I am considering adding a 30kW battery to my house, which would be located near the existing meterbox. Does it has its own requirement on separation with gas pipe?

Thank you for your information.

Cheers,

A

  • a new pipeline from the gas meter box to the house.

The meter box has a regulator reducing the pressure to only 1.25kPa, so any leak from after the meter box is likely very slow, very low risk. Gas will not accumulate outdoors. So long as the gas pipe does not run inside the fuse box, you are OK :-)

Separation between Gas Pipeline and Electrical Meter/Fuse Box

    Yes

  • -2

    2km away

    • Walking around the block once ?

  • 25mm/2.5cm above ground separation

    • Thank you very much. Do you have a link to some official guide from the state goverment for this regulation? or the ANZ standard code?

      • It's AS5601.1. Gas pipe is minimum 150mm clearance from the electrical board/meter/uninsulated cable. By the sounds of it you're well away.

  • Gas and Electricity Regulations 2012 (separate regs)

    And this - Energy & Mining https://share.google/Nwsw3IS3Bat1bdi1B

  • What did the sparky say to the plumber? keep away? Could not resist.
