Yeps perfect for beginners. Bought a couple for my kids and they were flinging and reeling in no time.

Only issue is it doesn’t stop you from catching blowies.

they pretty much always have a sienna combo around this price fwiw, pretty decent setups for someone starting out.

my rod tip snapped after hooking onto a yuge bream, but warranty doesn't cover it :(

Had 2 shimano rods from BCF 'snapping' at really strange places. Only happened with BCF/Shimano combination.
Try and go personally to a BCF and worst case leave the rods on their casheer desk. Ideally on a busy day, and drag it out as long and as loud as possible.

Half the time it's because they've been mistreated, either by random muppets in stores or by the owners. Graphite rods like these don't take a beating like the old fiberglass ones from years ago, they're more brittle, and that's probably why BCF aren't fans of loud customers trying to get their way. I've been in stores a number of times where people are trying to return busted graphite/carbon rods which probably snapped because their kids decided to swordfight with them, they get dropped constantly, or they shut the tips in the car boot.

    • I had one snap and they swapped it with no questions. It was only a week or two old and hadn't seen the water yet. Son picked it up and it hit the roof and it snapped just above the 2 piece join.

Another one fell over on the wharf and the tip snapped a few cm down. Bought replacement tip. Still not sold on graphite, but maybe need to move up above entry level

I have one the tip snapped as well, returned to Annaconda and they said they had to sent to Shimano (Sydney) for investigation. Two weeks later no updates, rang them and apparently it was still at the front desk. Complained to store manager and had it returned.

google high sticking. thats why its not covered.

I am a beginner. 182cm tall. Would like to buy this but no idea what length or capacity to go for. Any advice?

      It's fishing, not skiing.
4000 reel is best option for "general purpose"
If you are a beginner, use Platypus-super 100. Bit expensive but HUGE difference to "normal" mono.
Length depends where you fish from. From boat even a 6' does the trick. From shore or jetty, get the longest available.

height doesn't have much bearing on rod length, more about what type of fishing you do and where. I'd recommend the 7' for most adults though.

      • height doesn't have much bearing on rod length

        That's what she said ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) but I know she's lying.

    • I am also a beginner in fishing however its not the size that matters… its how you use it… and what you want to catch with it. Dont expect to catch a shark with this.

      • i beg to differ.

i did hook a bull shark in the logan river.
It did snap my rod just before brought it into the boat.
But it did catch one :)

        • What happen after? Does it carry the broken bit with it for the rest of its life?

          • @bcYield: it unhooked its self.
So was all good in the end.

            • @JCrown9: I always thought it is never easy for them to unhook them considering I myself struggle to do it.

        • Probably line rating was too heavy for the rod

    • Get the 7'6" 3-6kg, looks like a decent sweet spot between the others and should be quite versatile.

Give a man a fishing rod, he'll eat fish forever.

Post a fishing rod deal on ozbargain, he'll buy it on impulse and never use it to fish.

    • Because it costs an ozber money to travel to fish.

    • Read the descriptions, it says that one is fibreglass

If you're a true beginner and unsure if you're going to stick with it I would get a Jarvis Walker combo from Kmart and pass it down to the kids if you end up sticking with it. If you think you're likely to stick with it I'd spend $35 more than this deal and get a Daiwa setup instead to avoid the durability problems people are speaking of above

    • What length and capacity would you recommend for pier fishing and river fishing?

  • I buy one if it can secure me a fish.

Learn how to use graphite rods and you won't have a problem. Go and bend one on the horizontal plane and you'll struggle to break it, ever. Go and bend one on a vertical axis and watch a $400 rod break in a second. Not rocket science.
