Travel Agency Muck Around Advice

UPDATE

Apparently the words “Amex” and “Dispute” are pretty scary and they were able to refund me in full after being told it was “impossible”.

Still avoid these kants at all cost.

Hey everyone,

I know, lesson learnt - never book through a third-party travel agent. Unfortunately 19-year-old me thought if a site is listed on Skyscanner and Google Flights, it must be fine. Turns out, not so much.

Here’s what happened:

I booked what was advertised as a return MEL ⇄ SYD flight through Jettzy.

Immediately after payment, I was told there had been a “price error” and had to pay an extra $150 to secure the booking. I paid it.

After paying, I only received an itinerary for the return flight (SYD → MEL). The outbound flight (MEL → SYD) wasn’t ticketed.

Logging into their portal, I discovered my “return” booking was actually split into two separate one-ways (something I was never told upfront). The outbound was still marked as “being issued.”

After chasing support, I was told due to “another price error” the outbound was unavailable unless I paid an extra $190 per person (x3).

They said I could instead take a “full refund.”

Thinking I’d get my money back, I quickly booked new flights directly with Jetstar (outbound) and Qantas (return). But when I went back to Jettzy, they said they would only refund the outbound (~$600 of ~$1,300 total), since the return had already been ticketed.

So now I’m stuck with:

  • Jetstar outbound (non-refundable),

  • Qantas return (can only be refunded as travel credit),

  • and Jettzy’s Virgin return flight (apparently non-refundable).

There was definitely a big banner on their site saying “Flights 100% confirmed after payment.” Clearly that wasn’t true.

My Questions:

Has Jettzy completely screwed me here by failing to confirm the booking after I paid?

Should I take the partial refunds/credits and patch things together, or refuse and dispute the entire booking through Amex (my card provider)?

Am I right to argue under Australian Consumer Law that this should be a full refund, since what I bought (a return service) was never supplied in full?

Any help would be massively appreciated. TIA

    Are Jettzy an Australian company?

    • they are registered as an Australian company but I can also guarantee they are operating offshore. Owners are Chinese. Entire platform looks very copy / paste AI application.

      • They are an International company with an 'office' in QLD to appear Australian…

      • Despite jettzy.com.au having a banner on their site that says "100% AU owned & operated":

        • The company running the site (Tourism Integration Limited) is based in New Zealand. They have registered as a foreign company with ASIC and have an ABN but this doesn't in any way 'AU'

        • All company directors and shareholders have their residential addresses listed in either New Zealand or China

Even if they offered better prices I would not trust them to book me a $10 movie ticket let alone an airfare

They're most definitely a bait & switch scam travel company: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/jettzy

    Chargeback and rest easier.

  • Just dispute the transaction.

  • FYI any Qantas tickets booked on the qantas website can be refunded fully with 0 fees if you cancel within 24h.

    • I thought so too, however after being on hold for an hour, because the flight is under 30 days away they could only offer me a $100 cash refund.

      • ah dang, youre right. i forgot about that criteria.

Did you not do any research ???

    97% negative reviews…

    • I know, I feel stupid because I'm usually very switched on. It was a panic buy to see the NRL grand final.. I figured prices would go up dramatically. Jettzy was substantially cheaper then other flights.

You can watch it on TV for free.

The overnight train would have been my choice if I was faced with the prices OP paid.

      • Big price to pay to watch the Storm get flogged ;)
Just do a charge back with amex and enjoy the day/game.

        • Haha I'm a bronx man.

The advice is search with Google Flights, then book directly on the airline's website.

    darling hold my hand

Should have stopped here. If you used price scanner it mean you were looking for cheapest price? No way it was $150 cheaper than the next option…

    • Yeah - the thing was they actually charged me the initial amount, then told me about the extra. If I wasn't to pay the $150 extra I would have to wait 1 - 2 weeks to get my money back which just wasn't an option for me.

You're 19 and you have AMEX?

    Lol thats cooked

how? I pay in full every month and have never paid a cent in interest.

I have however been able to better manage cash flow for my business, redeem enough qantas points to travel the world, and build an excellent credit score at 19.

      unsure how this is "cooked"

      • enough qantas points to travel the world

Why not use your points for this flight then lol

        • just redeemed about 300,000 for an international holiday.

          don’t have enough at present.

        • have to wait till they are 21 ;)
