Subscriptions on Disney Plus and HBO Max Price Increases Incoming

Prices of Disney are increasing in the US again in October, so probably we will see the same in Australia.

Also not confirmed, HBO Max is also saying they are going to raise prices and crack down on password sharing.

  • Didn't HBO Max just come out in Aus? Wild if they already increase price before securing market share so I doubt it

    • yes I subbed 4 months of early bird price.

their new release frequency also suddenly dropped after the last month I subbed (but tbh the number of new release was quite impressive in the first 3 months). only new release since then was superman. so personally I have no reason to return right now.

So you've watched their entire catalogue in the last few months?

  • I'm letting mine lapse. Password sharing is too hard. If you watch in a browser it doesn't apply, but then what am I paying for?

Why do people even use them?
There’s perfectly good TV apps you can upload to you google/andriod tv which just work.

People still buy streaming TV services in 2015+10? How quaint!

    • yeah i know… im like… what people havent relised they are getting butt r@ped by these corp companies for money. i have been shipping away on the very empty seas for the last few years after they started to introduce ads back into tv streaming and no sharing. i say f you Disney, netflix and the rest!

      • Boiled frogs.
Netflix started out great, well worth paying for, but slowly it all got enshitified.

        • yeah even when i had it for a year or so, it was just the weirdest cr@ppy shows and only like stranger things that all dropped in a night so it really wasnt even worth it then. now with the fast NBN speed upgrade i can get that show in no time now.

          • @sandman20104159: I loved it. Piracy dropped dramatically in Australia after Netlix launched, showing that people were quite willing to pay for a service if it added value.

People seem to like Spotify and Apple Music etc still. Not many on Limewire or Kazza now :-)

            • @bargaino: sure it was before sharing and ads were introduced. i will let the sheeple have their paid services and ill continue roaming the high seas.

  • Thank God workplace is paying for all my subs.

  • We’ve decided to dip in when we like something and just binge watch for the month and then get out. Struggling to find stuff to watch most of the time.

I do the same but with these subs only when they offer some kind of discounted 3 to 4 month promo (usually only once a year). yeah I know in the end it's the same price as paying for a month normal price, but 3 to 4 months just makes it much more relaxed in terms of viewing time and getting my money's worth.

I did this with Disney, HBO Max (early bird prices) and DocPlay (3 months free for this one actually). unfortunately I have never seen this kind of offer from Netflix (who also continue to raise their prices). quite awhile ago they stopped free trials, don't offer promo's and even cracked down on people paying reduced prices for old ad free plans with giftcards.

      • Might be something during the Black Friday sales.

        • also didn't apply to me.

but I only recently learned, Netflix ad tier every year is included free if your electricity is with AGL.

  • people still pay for sub tv? havent we all gone back to our ships and plundered the ships of shows yet??? i know i am!

  • I feel like the streaming service sector is due for a large consolidation too many services for very little content - bar living sporting events i cant see why anyone would on going sub, just on/off your subscription to watch a show.movie you want to watch for a month

i think when the sub cost where low like sub $10 people just left it but anyone not actively switching their services is paying a laziness tax imho
