Replacing My LG G1 Television

Have some dead pixels on my G1, so LG gave me a store credit that could get me a 77" C5 if I pay an extra $200, or a 65" G5 and waste $500.

I'm not limited to LG, so can buy whatever brand I like, but I haven't been keeping up with the latest TVs.

I see see the G5 has a WOLED panel too.

Keen to hear other's opinions about what's good at the moment, AI can only tell me so many wrong things before I get confused and annoyed.

  • bargain !!!

  • The G5 has a tandem OLED panel which gets substantially brighter than before, if that’s something you are looking for.

    • Thanks, yes I did read that it's good for bright rooms and has anti reflective properties. My room is bright for a few hours a day, so definitely something to consider. Thank you.

  • LG gave me a store credit
    I'm not limited to LG

    How does that work?

    • They don't want to deal with me anymore so give a store some money for me to get a new TV.

      • +1

Oh so you basically select what store to get credit/gift card for? You must have been pretty annoying to deal with lmao
        Good job

        • I was actually surprised at how annoying I didn't have to be. There was a bunch of dead pixels after 4.5 years, they got a local repairer to replace the panel, the new panel had dead pixels, the repairer and I both told LG the new panel sucked, the repairer said none of the panels in LG's stock passed testing, LG gave me money. I thought it was crazy they gave me the same amount of money as what I bout the G1 for 4.5 years ago.

I didn't even have to threaten them with the Australian consumer guarantees, they dropped their pants straight away and said, yeah, it's out of warranty but you're covered under the consumer guarantees. I was ready to argue but didn't need to, they just did the right thing.

Also, I believe the dead pixels is a known issue with the G1.

          • @spirrowhack: Very nice. I have been dealing with Garmin for my broken watch that is 4yrs old and the are telling me they are going me a great service by offering for me to buy a discounted depreciated model. ACL quotes and threats haven't meant much to them yet

@knobbs: Funny, I just dealt with Garmin for an out of warranty Tacx trainer, again, they dropped their pants straight away and gave me a new one. I've been having a good run with companies doing the right thing.

  • Ended up getting the 77 inch G5 and paying $900 after the 20% off with the soundbar deal. They reckon I can claim the $700 visa as well, so double bonus.
