Makita 19-Piece HSS-Tin 1-10mm Drill Bits Set D-72229 - $20 + $9.99 Delivery ($0 VIC C&C/ $100 Order) @ Power Tool Specialists

Goes to Bunnings for a drill bit set, sees the $29.98 RYOBI HSS-TIN Bit set, walks out empty handed.

When did RYOBI at Bunnings get so expensive. Also, realised Bunnings don't sell the Makita bit set, maybe so they don't have to sell it with price beat?

This is the best deal I have found. Regular price $40.40, now $20. Please feel free to share any other great value deals you see that I should consider.

Its just TIN coat, for light use or occasion, once that coat gone which i believe fairly quickly after a few runs, its back to plain metal. So i guess the price is fair but not really decent price

    • There is a Milwaukee Cobalt drill bit set $148.50 for hardcore users. I have heard Sutton Tools makes some great bits too.

Sutton Bits are good, as are Kango.

Total Tools have a new range from Sutton called the Stack-In Series, which look like a great idea.
It's also at Tool Kit Depot

        • Yeh they are bloody costly but you only buy them maybe once in a life time and never bother to buy again. If you do a lot of harden steel or thick ones, try to look up TiAlN / AlTiN types, way superior to cobalt which endure high speed and heat resistance basically godsent of drill bits you can drill a tank with it. Me personally cobalt should be a sweet spot of economy

  • I will never again buy drill bits with a smooth, round shank :(

    • You would need 1/4 hex shank for higher torque job, smooth shank will spin

      • yes, I got one Ryobi set and one Bosch set, both spins when drilling into hardwood :(
Will only buy bits with 1/4 hex shank or 3-side shank from now on

      • But isn’t the idea of a drill bit to not use the torque so much as speed and sharpness?
You don’t want the drill bit to “rip” through the wood, rather slice the wood - for which the torque would be less useful?

I’ve never had an issue with smooth shank drill bits in my drill/driver- but hex bit for my impact drivers all the way
