  • What you'll need to get started:
    * Be a permanent resident in Australia and live in NSW or QLD.
    * An email address and mobile number.
    * Two forms of ID - either an Australian driver licence, passport, Medicare card or birth certificate for under 18's.
    * A spare 5 minutes - grab a cuppa!

    • Darn! I was gonna sign up but only just saw this as well. Good spotting by you! Strange for them to limit to only 2 states

      • "Newcastle Permanent" kinda has some meaning to it now though if you consider it right?

    • Buzz kill really ought to be contained under T&C's of OP. Thankyou, maybe have saved my phone being lofted across the room.

Is live in determined by your supplied ID?

      • Probably only linked to an address with the drivers licence. A passport does not have an address on it.

        • Well yes this was essentially the question I was asking for.

Is the link forced by the document or could one live at a location that is not the address on the document. As I may hold a NSW licence but reside in Victoria and be a wholesome ozbargainer in finding a loophole

          • @parad0x: You can't put an address other than Qld or NSW so your card would go elsewhere. Also even if you pass online verification with passport they require physical documents to be verified

    • $50 won't be paid to QLD residents. They changed the T&C.

There is a tiny T&C link on the deal page that says $50 is for NSW residents only.
They sneakily said yes you can open an account from QLD (which is that text you quoted) but no $50 bonus.
This appeared to have been added after the promo started..
Archived page from 2/10 shows no such requirement on the page.

      • If that is the case, AFCA complaint will be lodged once the offer period time has elapsed

  • Thanks!

Do they have ATMs that allow cash deposits?

    • I know they have a location in Gosford which does deposits

However with these banks which are mostly online or far away from my home (Like uBank and Newcastle), I just deposit into a Westpac account, then transfer into them

      • Thanks!

  • Thanks! Applied

  • Does it has digital card sooner we sign up? For use in stores

    • No, you will have to wait for physical card before can make purchases

If you live in QLD and cannot add physical card to digital wallet due to error, you may need to call them to remove any restrictions for not being a NSW resident

      • Thanks I’m NSW

Also the bonus50 code we put in last step before submitting where it asks for promotional code right

        • Yes, it should show a green tick next to the box once entered

          • @simplerick: Yes thanks for confirming

Btw what world are they in, still no confirmation of application just submission confirmation I got. All other banks instant confirmation and account login. Also these guys don’t offer digi card immediately for use like westpac or so…

            Too bad…

Also I was interviewed there for a Tech position they are way too legacy tech and now moving to cloud merging two groups

            • @[Deactivated]: The finance industry is infamous for having a legacy tech stack.

              • @abc: Haha yes

      • @simplerick are you sure? My physical card hasn’t arrived yet but I was able to add the digital card to Apple Pay

  • Thanks OP

  • I requested for a digital card only account.

How do you add the debit card for the tap?

    • is that an option they offer, to only have a Digital Card for the account, without any physical card having to be posted out at all? hmm, interesting… always hate having to wait for cards to arrive…

Anyway, probably have to activate the digital card and any Gpay/Apay Wallet settings through their app, or take note of the digital card details in the app and add the card manually to the Wallet

      • Maybe i misread…. And have to organise a card now :(

      • I've sent an enquiry if 1) physical card can be added to a digital wallet and 2) confirm digital wallet use is eligible for promotion compliance

  • Something went wrong…

We're having some issues with our system. Please restart your application or get in touch for help.

    • Tried again today and it works.

      Everyday Account application complete!

      You're all done!

Thank you for choosing to bank with us.

  • (2) make at least two eligible Visa Debit card purchases

Eligible purchases include purchases using a merchant terminal where credit is selected

    Is this a typo?

    • Pressing Credit on the 'eftpos' machine forces the transaction to be processed through the VISA network instead of the EFTPOS network.

  • Signed up - worked - thank you.

    • It’s surely misleading

  • 2 minutes after email that all is setup comes another email comes that I need to call them and things won't work til I do. Still get email to download app, and so put it on multpile devices, get ID and acct number appearing on the app across devices; then able to setup PayID, and put 1 cent in via that. That was last night. So ring them this morning and they go to asking why should they give it to me since I am out of their 'usual footprint'. I'm not that far from Brisbane and plenty of people from here drive down for 'events'. So give the bank reason why - which goes to owning home in Sydney, not that long ago, and going often to Sydney as family live there. Next comes something / an alert about there's a flag on the system about ID - so comes - "I might be able to get it sorted" - Yes but 20 min on hold. Finally comes back"All is good". Then says may not get the bonus back as was a previous customer. I think that was closed about 5 years ago. I say this. She goes "still may not get bonus back". So I quote other banks that I know will redo honeymoon rate after 2 years of closing, and suggest that they are 'a bit behind the game' and might reconsider how they do things. That just reinforce what was said before. "you may not get it" - well I go to what 'may' means & Good bye.

    • I think we spoke to the same stone cold bitch.

  • So just confirming you can make 2 x5 purchases on Shopback App and pay with Apple Pay and this would qualify?

  • Got rejected because I live in Sydney.

    • Thanks for sharing.

  • This was a pain…. Had to call up to get my account activated… Brisbane based

  • Just realised the email they sent with the application number actually included a request to verify ID at a physical branch. Yep, that's not happening…

  • I've got everything up and running and even activated the card received in the mail via website

But when the card is not working. Upon checking with customer service, they have stopped me using the card until speak to someone. So far they asked me why open the account and location in sydney.

I don't feel good about this as they don't want many people not reside near in newcastle or queensland to open the account for sake of bonus

    • You are right. Thanks for heads up for those not applying yet. It is a hidden terms that is not easily written down. Equally, they should only accept homeloan applications in these areas as well.

Next step: the offer may be withdrawn soon.

    • What did you end up doing? Card also not working despite activation. Wasnt going to bother following up and proceeded to transfer out the $10 i had transferred in but cant transfer out and have to call them.. very annoying.

      • I've got my card working and have completed my two $5 pirchase.

You're required to speak to them on the phone and complete another verification ID with a selfie process submit to them on the spot. once completed, they lifted the block on the card.

so basically it is a security issue on this one. most likely every person even got through apply the bank account online successfully will stuck on this matter later.

        • Closing account now cheaters they are

      • @nomnomnom

Same for me not working they are cheaters

    • I just had same experience

Card doesn’t work despite it shows active in app

      Bloody cheaters

I lost money too in purchasing via other card

  • waiting game now

  • @VKV

    They are bloody cheaters.

I opened account. Firstly no digital card that we can use to get benefit in your post

Secondly waited for ages 3 weeks to get card on post and activated in app. I used in Woolies it declined. It says active in app. I also set pin.

Also the can not add card to apple wallet extremely ridiculous what age are they in so backward… now they made us open account with no benefit to use card and get $50

It’s a shame multiple times it’s declined in Cole’s n Woolies and couldn’t even ignore items so used other card to purchase. It’s a loss for me as I didn’t intent to buy but just to use card twice before it expires today or tomorrow

    Very ridiculous

    Their telephone line super bad…

Gona close account such a ridiculous experience

    • Happened to me also, card "Active", all transactions declining. Call them up and they had to verify it was me that opened the account. Then the card worked.

      • I closed account transferring money on the same call they activated my account … nightmare… I lost some money spending unnecessarily because of that $50 bonus which was ineligible as I did on last day as went overseas and when I used card decline and nobody to help as it was Sunday evening no customer support

  • I can’t transfer money to close account either same as others here

  • Anyone got their $50?

    • Not me

      • Not me…

        • No, not yet.

    • Got paid - today. $50

      Horrible process - closing account

      • Still nothing here

    • Just realised my $50 bonus was banked in on 14/01/2026. I did email Enquiries@newcastlepermanent.com.au previously and had a response that bonus should be in 2 weeks if eligible, which apparently it does. Finally

  • Date 26/11/2025
    Amount $50.00
    Description Welcome Bonus
    Account number xxxxxxxxx

  • just got $50

  • Anyone still waiting

    • Yep me

  • Called today to ask where is the $50
Rep pointed out there are two T&C, to open the account its fine to be in QLD or NSW but the tiny T&C linked on offer page says the bonus is for NSW residents only.

    Misleading AF.

"+$50 Bonus Offer: To be eligible for the offer, (1) open a new Everyday Account either online using the campaign code ‘bonus50’ or in branch and mention this offer; and (2) make at least two eligible Visa Debit card purchases of at least $5 on the account within 30 days of opening. All account holders must be aged 11 and over, reside in NSW at the time of account opening and be a new customer to Newcastle Permanent, which means you did not hold any accounts as at 30/09/2025. Eligible purchases include purchases using a merchant terminal where credit is selected or using tap and go/contactless where the transaction is processed on the Visa network; online purchases via a merchant’s website/app; or scheduled payments using the Visa card details. If eligible, the $50 bonus will be paid into your Everyday Account within 60 days of you becoming eligible (account must still be open at time of payment). Offer is not available in conjunction with any other offer and is limited to one payment per account and to your first eligible account only. Offer is available until withdrawn. Newcastle Permanent may change or withdraw this offer at any time."

    • Thanks for sharing that. I guess no bonus for us in QLD then. Has anyone from QLD received $50?

      • An archived page from 2 October did not state that 'NSW residents only' requirements at the bottom of the page.

        They added it later.

Everyone from QLD should lodge a complaint and get their $50

        • I am in QLD and have not yet received the bonus

I’ll be submitting a complaint to AFCA once 60 days have passed of me meeting the eligibility requirements

          • @JHoliday: They certainly deserve an AFCA complaint for the deceptive behaviour of quietly changing the terms then denying payout to those who signed up before the T&C was altered.
They wrote new customers only prominently but the NSW req is hidden away inside T&C at the bottom of the page. The Bonus $50 FAQ wasn't there before, too.

On the next page it said:
What you'll need to get started:
Be a permanent resident in Australia and live in NSW or QLD.

It's just dodgy to have QLD printed there to lure people in.

        • I called and they said they would escalate it and asked for a screenshot of the original T&Cs to be emailed. I then got a callback saying they would honour it and credit the $50 by next Fri - will see if that happens.

          • @sleazy: got the $50 just now

            • @sleazy: Nice! The bank responded saying they'll pay out my bonus as well.

        • Thanks - have also submitted a request as I did not receive $50 / QLD resident.

        • I am from QLD and called yesterday. They escalated it and called me back today to say they will credit it and the delay was due to xmas. There was no discussion about the changed terms or screenshot required.

  • Gave passport and driver license deets, but: "We couldn't complete your application online as we were unable to verify your identity electronically. Please take your ID to your nearest branch." There are no branches in Sydney RIP :(

  • Can anyone add the card to Google Wallet? Card is already activate but couldn't add to GWallet. Can't even do a test transfer out from account.

    • Have to call them to "activate" the account (need to do the ID check online), even though it's already received money.

  • I am in QLD and my wife and I finally received our bonuses without having to call.

  • Is the cashback really only 60 days after eligible?
