    Hey kungfuman. I used to feel the same and Halloween wasn't really a thing when I was growing up (Melb) but it's getting bigger and bigger every year.

    I have a couple of kids and they LOVE dressing up and going trick or treating (basically a license for free lollies).

    I've been decorating my house for about the past 10 years. The origins of Halloween mean nothing to me, but seeing neighbourhood kids all dressed up and having a blast is a lot of fun (to me, at least).

    this is an American thing

    Maybe only the commercial part (much like other public holidays that people don't seem to have an issue with), but Halloween is a bit more complicated than that.
