  • How would you connect this to 12v fridge or usb appliances?

    • +2

you need go add: solar controller + 12v Battery to order to do this.

      • ^ this!
Solar panel without controller is as good as useless.
Solar panel with controller, but without a battery*, is almost as good as useless.
        * even a small battery can help, but you need some kind of a buffer to run things off of it.

  • Ooh been meaning to get something for my battery, this'll work a treat. And there's stock at my local! Thanks!

In my experience, the performance of these panels is quite poor. In absolute ideal conditions, they output half their rated power. I have the 120W solar blanket from Kings and the most I can get is 60W. I don't know how the reviews can be so good, I would consider that false advertising and borderline scam. You get what you pay for, quality solar blankets from other manufacturers would cost at least twice the price but at least they output close to what they are advertised/rated at.

    • Interesting. Is it the current gen? This guy gets about 191w on his 240w blanket to the battery including cables or about 213w coming out directly which is pretty good. https://youtu.be/LEYA_EJxiCc?si=HxJNT2UszJNkcLjl

      • thanks for sharing. I probably have a previous gen, bought in June 2021. Gives me a bit of hope seeing that video, but still think I would rather spend more for some higher performance panels.

Anderson plug connection and extension are practical. Suggest it needs a Solar Regulator with it (not supplied). “LaelapsUnleashed” - to connect fridge, just make up an adapter with fridge plug one end, 300-400mm cable & Anderson plug other end. USB appliances usually plug into Solar Regulator. Connection from panels via Solar Regulator to e.g. car battery, make up three “Anderson plug +300-400mm of cable” units. Connect one unit inward power to regulator, & one unit to outwards power connections. Third unit connect permanently to battery terminals with appropriate cable connector or use temporary connection via spring clamps. Note through whole process that same colour wire that you see as +ve on the extension cords goes to +ve terminals because same polarity is important throughout. Having done all that, use the extension cords to do all the linking up.

    • Cheers, appreciate that. Do you know if you can these extension cables with 12v adapters?

*anderson plug are a convenient way to plug connect stuff together *

it depends on what you by 12 adaptor, do you mean a cig plug socket?
this solar blanket by itself is not useful to power a fridge. it is used to charge a battery. which will power your 12v appliance.

there are extensions with anderson plugs on both then. there are some with anderson plugs with a female cig plug on the other end. some anderson on one end and male plug on the other. some with rings.

It is best to search youtube with your specific use case.

  • I’m not sure what you mean about 12 V adapters, but the extension cables would be fine with 12 V. Those fittings I mentioned above should I only have cable on them of the same gauge as the extension cords that are supplied the panels. The Anderson plugs common on all of the fittings gives you a great deal of versatility enjoying solar panels to various other places where power is used. If you insert an alternative 12 V adapter into the system that I described you may lose versatility.

The Kings 200w & 300w folding panels product a lot more gigawatts than the folding soft suitcase style blankets, just in case that helps someone. I've got the 200w and it easily does 165w. It's great.

    • thanks for the feedback. I have updated the post.

might get the bi-fold if I can transport it safely in my hatchback or topbox.
I suppose that is the tradeoff for blanket

  • If the adapter you’re speaking of is like the 12v plug that goes to your fridge, I suggest you make up an Anderson plug plus cable plus fridge plug, and that would be fine. I find that keeping the extension cords with Anderson plugs on both ends makes for greater versatility in using the panels. If your fridge is wired into a circuit in your car already and that’s where it’s used from, your best bet would be to connect your cable from the solar regulator to the battery from which the fridge is drawing power.
